Updated: 2026-10-06

As of October 2026, EvenOut's free plan has no daily expense limit and no ads, and it includes charts, search, repeating bills and a Splitwise import. Splitwise's free plan stops at 4 expenses a day, and Settle Up's free version has ads. Tricount and Splid are compared too, in five tables.

Key points:
- EvenOut's free plan has no daily expense limit and no ads. Splitwise's free plan stops at 4 expenses a day, and Settle Up's free version has ads.
- Charts, search, repeating bills and reminders are free in EvenOut. Splitwise lists charts and search in Pro, and Settle Up lists charts and recurring bills in Premium.
- EvenOut Pro, at $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year, covers only receipt scanning and the assistant. Everything else in EvenOut is free.
- An EvenOut group takes up to 200 people, and you can add a guest by name before they sign up. Tricount's help center says up to 50 people per tricount.
- EvenOut keeps each expense in the currency it was entered in, with balances per currency, as Splitwise does by default. Tricount, Settle Up and Splid work with exchange rates.

## How do the five apps compare at a glance?

EvenOut's free plan has no daily expense limit and no ads, while Splitwise states 4 expenses a day and Settle Up's free version has ads. Tricount's website says it has no daily cap, and Splid lists none. This table covers the free limit, ads and paid options, as of October 2026.

| App | Free-plan limit | Ads | Paid options |
|---|---|---|---|
| EvenOut | No daily expense limit | None | Pro: $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year, for receipt scanning and the assistant |
| Splitwise | 4 expenses a day | Pro lists an ad-free app | Pro: monthly, or yearly Individual or Duo with a Trip Pass. Price varies by country and date |
| Tricount | No daily expense cap, per its website | Website: none. Terms: advertising "may therefore appear" | None described; Premium was discontinued |
| Settle Up | No cap listed | Ads on the free version, removed by Premium | Individual Premium, or one-time Group Premium. Prices differ by channel |
| Splid | No limit listed | States your data is not used for advertising | Splid Plus $3.99 and 2 Groups $2.99 (US listing) |

Settle Up's Individual Premium is $3.49 a month on its website and $3.99 in its US app listing, and Group Premium is a one-time purchase per group. Splitwise's terms say its Pro price may vary by date, country, taxes and promotions, so no single figure applies to everyone.

## What does paying get you in each app?

The paid options buy different things, so compare the contents before the prices. As of October 2026:

- **EvenOut Pro** adds receipt scanning, which splits items, tax and tip, and an assistant that answers questions about balances and drafts expenses for you to confirm. Everything else is free, including charts, search, repeating bills, reminders and the Splitwise import.
- **Splitwise Pro** ends the 4 a day cap and adds charts, expense search, currency conversion, receipt scanning, default splits and an ad-free app.
- **Settle Up Premium** lists recurring and future transactions, charts, reminders, receipt photos, categories, bulk exchange-rate editing, Excel export and the removal of ads.
- **Tricount** describes no paid plan, since Premium was discontinued. Former Premium members were offered a free 6-month bunq Pro subscription.
- **Splid** sells Splid Plus and 2 Groups as in-app purchases, and Excel export comes through an in-app purchase. The listing does not say what Splid Plus or 2 Groups include.

Splitwise's Pro list includes lifting the 4 a day cap, charts and search, and Settle Up's Premium page includes removing ads, categories, recurring transactions, reminders and charts. EvenOut's free plan has no daily cap, no ads and all of the rest.

## Who runs each app, and how do people join?

The owners range from a Providence company to one developer in Munich, and Tricount's help center says newly registered users get a bunq account automatically.

- **Splitwise** is based in Providence, Rhode Island, with Jonathan Bittner listed as CEO.
- **Tricount's** terms (version dated 17 December 2024) say it is "owned and operated by bunq B.V." A bunq press release of 3 May 2022 announced the acquisition, with the footnote "pending regulatory approval".
- **Settle Up** is owned by Step Up Labs Inc., Casper, Wyoming, and its terms add "We are all based in the Czech Republic, Europe."
- **Splid's** Impressum names one person, Nicolas Jersch of Munich, Germany, and shows no company form.

EvenOut signs you in with Google or email. Splitwise registration asks for a name, email, phone number and password, and Settle Up offers Google, Apple or email sign-in. Splid says no sign-up is required, and Tricount's home page offers "Try tricount without signing up".

| App | How people join |
|---|---|
| EvenOut | A group invite link, or a guest added by name; friends connect by QR code or link |
| Splitwise | A member invites you by email, phone or link |
| Tricount | Tap a shared link, up to 50 people including you |
| Settle Up | Link or QR code; read-only access exists |
| Splid | An access code, if you share the group online |

EvenOut allows up to 200 people in a group, and Tricount's help center says up to 50 including you. For the other three apps, check what group size the app allows before you invite a large group.

## How do they treat money in more than one currency?

EvenOut keeps each expense in its own currency, as Splitwise does by default, while Tricount, Settle Up and Splid work with exchange rates. As of October 2026:

| App | Balances | Conversion |
|---|---|---|
| EvenOut | Separate per currency, with each expense in any of 154 currencies | None; amounts stay as entered |
| Splitwise | Separate per currency | A Pro button converts a whole group at the mid-market rate |
| Tricount | One currency per tricount | Other currencies converted at the market rate, with a daily rate shown |
| Settle Up | "All currencies" | Real-time exchange rates; editing them in bulk is Premium |
| Splid | More than 150 currencies | Automatic conversion of the amount |

Say three friends pay 150 pounds for train tickets, and the example rate is 1.25 dollars to the pound. EvenOut keeps the 150 pounds as pounds, so each share is 50.00 pounds on a separate pound line, and Splitwise does the same unless someone with Pro converts the group. On an app that uses exchange rates, the total can show as $187.50 and each share as $62.50.

Splitwise says its conversion applies to every expense in the group, settled ones included, which can change what other people owe, and that reversing it by email to support "isn't always possible". If you keep two currencies apart, [the guide to splitting expenses in two currencies without converting](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/split-expenses-in-multiple-currencies) shows the method.

## Which features are free in each app?

EvenOut's free plan includes repeating bills and charts. Splitwise lists charts in Pro, and Settle Up's Premium page lists both recurring transactions and charts. In the tables below, "Not mentioned" means the company's own pages do not say, which is not the same as the feature being absent.

| App | Recurring bills | Charts |
|---|---|---|
| EvenOut | Free: weekly, monthly or yearly, added for you | Free, per group or friend, by category, person and month |
| Splitwise | Free: weekly, fortnightly, monthly or yearly | Pro |
| Tricount | Add each bill by hand | A category pie chart per tricount |
| Settle Up | Premium | Premium page lists "Charts" |
| Splid | Not mentioned | Group total and spend per person in the summary |

The second table covers moving in, scanning and offline use. EvenOut's Splitwise import brings across expenses and payments, not only members and balances.

| App | Splitwise import | Receipts | Offline |
|---|---|---|---|
| EvenOut | Free: expenses and payments from one CSV | Pro scans items, tax and tip; one photo per expense is free | Add, edit and delete offline, sync later |
| Splitwise | The source of the export | Pro scans and itemizes | Offline mode is in the free list |
| Tricount | Listed: "Import your Splitwise group" | Photos attach to expenses | "Add expenses without a signal" |
| Settle Up | Brings members and balances from a group export | Premium: receipt photos | Works offline |
| Splid | Not mentioned | Not mentioned | "Works on and offline" |

Splitwise Pro and EvenOut Pro both read a receipt into items. Tricount and Settle Up store photos, and Splid's pages do not mention receipts. EvenOut rebuilds each imported split as exact amounts, so balances match but the original split methods, percentages and notes do not come across.

## Which app fits which situation?

For most groups splitting rent, trips or bills, EvenOut is the app to start with. Start from the thing you do most.

- **Many expenses a day:** EvenOut has no daily expense limit on its free plan, and Splitwise's free plan stops at 4 a day. Tricount's website says it has no daily cap either.
- **No ads:** EvenOut has none. Settle Up's Premium removes ads that its free version shows, Splitwise lists an ad-free app in Pro, and Tricount's website says none while its terms say advertising may appear.
- **Charts, search and repeating bills without paying:** EvenOut has all three free, with charts per group or friend. Splitwise lists charts and search in Pro, and Settle Up lists charts and recurring transactions in Premium.
- **Big groups and people who are not on the app yet:** EvenOut takes up to 200 people and lets you add a guest by name.
- **Leaving Splitwise:** EvenOut's import is free and creates one new group per CSV file.

EvenOut's paid Pro covers receipt scanning and the assistant, which proposes expenses for you to confirm. If you need a data export file, automatic currency conversion, no account at all or a language other than English, those are outside what EvenOut does. ## Frequently asked questions

### Can someone join before they have an account?

In EvenOut you add a guest by name inside a group and track their share, then send a single-use claim link that lasts 7 days. Splitwise lets you add a friend you invited by email or phone to expenses before they accept. Splid says no sign-up is required, and a group you do not share online stays only on your device. Tricount's home page offers 'Try tricount without signing up'. Settle Up's sign-in dialog offers Google, Apple and email.

### How does each app cut the number of payments?

In EvenOut the 'Simplify debts' setting is on by default, any non-viewer member can turn it off, and everyone's total stays the same. Splitwise's Simplify Debts regroups who owes whom without changing anyone's total, works within each currency separately, and any member can switch it in group settings. Settle Up minimizes the number of transactions and lets you turn that off per group. Tricount proposes repayments that aim to limit the number of transactions. Splid says it always finds the easiest way to settle up, with no switch mentioned.

### Which app suits a group of 40 people?

EvenOut allows up to 200 people in a group, and Tricount's help center says up to 50 people per tricount, including you, so 40 fits either. For Splitwise, Settle Up and Splid, check what group size the app allows before you invite a large club or a wedding party.

### How do I move a Splitwise group into EvenOut?

In Splitwise, export the group as a spreadsheet. In EvenOut, open Account, then Data, then Import from Splitwise, and choose the CSV file. You get one new group per file, people are matched by name, and anyone left on Assign later becomes a guest placeholder. The import is free, and the file can be up to 2 MB, 20,000 rows and 100 members.
