EvenOut's free plan has no daily expense limit and no ads, and its charts and search are free, so a group has no plan to share for those. Splitwise Pro plans cover a fixed number of people: Individual covers one, Duo covers two, and a yearly plan's Trip Pass gives a trip group Pro features for 30 days.

Key points:
- EvenOut has no daily expense limit on its free plan, and its charts and search are free. Only receipt scanning and the assistant are paid.
- A Splitwise group can move to EvenOut through the free CSV import, with each expense's date and currency kept.
- As of October 2026, Splitwise lists Individual (one person), Duo (two people, the buyer adds the second) and a monthly plan (one person).
- A yearly plan's Trip Pass gives a trip group Pro features for 30 days. Only Pro subscribers can convert or scan, but all members see the results.
- Splitwise's official pages show no Pro price when you are logged out, so compare Duo and Individual at checkout.

## Can one person's Splitwise Pro cover a whole group?

A plan covers one person, or two on Duo, and the Trip Pass is how a trip group gets Pro features for a while. As of October 2026, Splitwise's help center names three plan types, and each covers a fixed number of people:

- **Individual + Trip Pass**, billed once a year, for one person.
- **Duo + Trip Pass**, billed once a year, for two people. The buyer adds the second person.
- **Monthly subscription**, for one person.

All of them include every Pro feature. The route to everyone else in a group is narrower: the Trip Pass, and the fact that results from Pro actions are visible to the whole group.

## What do other group members see?

They see the results, not the tools. Splitwise says only Pro subscribers can convert currency or scan and itemize receipts, but all group members see what those actions produce. If one person converts a group's expenses into their default currency, everyone sees the converted amounts. If one person scans a receipt, everyone sees the expense created from it.

The Trip Pass changes who can use the tools. A yearly plan includes one annual Trip Pass, which "can be applied to any trip group of your choosing and grants Pro features to group members for 30 days".

## Who needs Pro in a 4-person trip group?

Say four friends, Ana, Ben, Cal and Dee, take a trip. The table shows who can convert currency or scan receipts under each setup.

If only one person needs to convert or scan, one plan is enough, because the other three see the results.

| Setup | Who can convert or scan | Plan terms |
|---|---|---|
| Nobody has Pro | No one | Free accounts |
| Ana on the monthly plan | Ana | One person; the plan name lists no Trip Pass |
| Ana and Ben on Duo, no Trip Pass applied | Ana and Ben | Yearly, two people, one Trip Pass included |
| Ana on a yearly plan, Trip Pass applied to the group | All four, for 30 days | One Trip Pass per yearly plan |

The pass lasts 30 days, so a trip longer than that is not covered from start to finish, and a yearly plan includes one pass a year.

## How does the 4-a-day limit change the choice?

Splitwise says free users can add up to 4 expenses each day. Read as a per-user limit, four free members can log 16 a day between them if each logs their own.

Say the group logs 11 expenses a day for 6 days, 66 in all. One free logger covers 4 × 6 = 24 and leaves 42 over. Two cover 48 and leave 18. Three cover 12 a day, which is enough for 11. So three of the four need to log, and nobody needs Pro for the limit alone. On EvenOut's free plan there is no daily expense limit, so one person can log all 66 as they happen.

Plan the logging so it does not depend on one member's Pro, or a Trip Pass, lifting the limit for everyone else.

## How does EvenOut compare with Splitwise Pro?

EvenOut's free plan has no daily expense limit and no ads, and it includes charts and search, which Splitwise lists as Pro features. EvenOut's paid plan is two things: receipt scanning and the assistant. The table sets the two side by side.

| | EvenOut | Splitwise, as of October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Daily expense limit on the free plan | None | Up to 4 expenses a day |
| Ads | None | An ad-free experience is listed as a Pro feature |
| Charts and expense search | Free | Listed as Pro features |
| What the paid plan covers | Receipt scanning and the assistant | Includes expense limit removal, charts, search, currency conversion, default splits, receipt scanning and an ad-free experience |
| Paid plan price | $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year | Not shown on its Pro or sign-up page when logged out |

EvenOut does not convert currencies. Each expense keeps its own currency, and balances are kept per currency. To bring a group across, [moving a Splitwise group to EvenOut](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/move-splitwise-group-to-evenout) covers the CSV import, which is free.

## Duo or Individual for a couple?

On that reading, two free partners can log up to 8 expenses a day between them. What decides between Duo and Individual is who needs to use Pro features, and the checkout price.

- **One partner does the converting and scanning.** One Individual plan is enough, because the other partner sees the results.
- **Both partners need the tools themselves, or both regularly log more than 4 expenses a day.** Duo gives two people Pro on one plan. Compare its checkout price with two Individual plans, and pick Duo only if it is the lower of the two.

On a travel day with 9 combined expenses, two free partners log 4 and 4, and the ninth waits. If that happens on most days of a trip, the limit is the reason to buy Pro or to log on EvenOut, where the free plan has no daily expense limit, and the plan type is secondary.

## What to do next

For a typical group, start on EvenOut: there is no daily expense limit to plan around, and charts and search are free, so nobody needs a paid plan to log and review a trip. If the group needs Splitwise Pro's currency conversion, decide who will convert or scan and buy for that number of people. Compare Duo with two Individual plans on the checkout screen, since Splitwise's Pro and sign-up pages show no price when you are logged out, and keep in mind that a yearly plan includes one Trip Pass a year. For the plans in detail, see [Splitwise Pro cost and plans](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/splitwise-pro-cost-and-plans), and [what Splitwise Pro features include](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/splitwise-pro-features) lists what each one does. The Splitwise Trip Pass glossary entry has the 30-day rule on its own.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I share Splitwise Pro with family members beyond a Duo plan?

Splitwise's help article on Pro describes two ways Pro reaches other people: the second person on a Duo plan, and the Trip Pass for a trip group. It mentions no family plan.

### How much does Duo cost compared with two Individual plans?

Splitwise's Pro and sign-up pages list features and show no price when you are logged out. Its Terms say the price may vary by date of subscription, country, local taxes and promotions. Compare the Duo checkout price with two Individual plans, and pick Duo only if it is lower and both of you will use Pro features.

### If one member has Pro, does the daily expense limit lift for everyone?

Splitwise states the limit as "free users can add up to 4 expenses each day" and says Pro removes it. Plan the group's logging so it does not depend on one member's Pro lifting the limit for the others. The Trip Pass grants Pro features to group members for 30 days.

### Does Duo come with a Trip Pass?

Splitwise names the plan "Duo + Trip Pass", and each yearly plan includes one annual Trip Pass. A Duo therefore has one to apply, while two separate Individual yearly plans have two, one each.
