To request money on Cash App, open the Payments tab, enter an amount of at least $1, tap Request, choose the person by name, $cashtag, phone number or email, and add a note. For someone without Cash App, or for several people at once, share a payment link instead. They can pay it with Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Key points:
- Payments tab, amount (minimum $1), Request, then a name, $cashtag, phone or email and a note. On the web it is Pay & Request, then Request.
- A shared payment link is reusable, and the person paying needs no Cash App account. They pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay.
- The Privacy setting called Payment requests (No one, Contacts only or Anyone) decides who can ask a person for money.
- If the person approves a request, it becomes their payment instruction under Cash App's Terms.
- Cash App's UK help page gives requests a 14-day window. Do not assume it applies to a US account, and follow up yourself.

## How do you request money on Cash App?

Open the Payments tab, enter the amount, tap Request and choose who to ask. The amount has to be at least $1.

1. **Open the Payments tab.** It is the one marked with a $.
2. **Enter the amount.** The minimum is $1.
3. **Tap Request.**
4. **Choose the person.** Enter their name, $cashtag, phone number or email.
5. **Add a note** about what the money is for, and send the request.

On the web, the path is Pay & Request, then Request. As of October 2026, Cash App's Terms say that if the person approves a request, it becomes their payment instruction.

Say you paid $210 for a birthday dinner shared by six people. Each share is $35, so you request $35 from each of the other five and write "Birthday dinner, Saturday" in the note.

## How do you ask several people, or someone without Cash App?

Share a payment link instead of picking a recipient. On the request screen, choose "share link" where you would add a recipient. The link opens a payment pre-filled with the amount and note, and it is reusable, so the same link can ask several people for money. Cash App announced payment links on February 10, 2026.

For the $210 dinner, you could set up the $35 share once and paste the link into the group chat. As of October 2026, Cash App says that someone who does not have Cash App can still pay through the link with Apple Pay or Google Pay. The person paying needs no Cash App account, but must be a US resident aged 18 or older. [Cash App payment links](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/cash-app-payment-links) covers creating and sharing one in more detail.

Cash App also has Pools for collecting money toward a shared cost such as a trip or a gift. [How Cash App Pools work](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/cash-app-pools) covers the fees and rules.

## Why can't you request some people?

Cash App has a Privacy setting called Payment requests with three choices: No one, Contacts only and Anyone. It decides who can ask a person for money, and a person can also block accounts.

So a friend who chose No one cannot be sent a request, and one who chose Contacts only can be asked only by their contacts. If that is the case, ask them to send the money straight to your $cashtag instead.

## What if the person does not pay?

Cash App's UK help page says a request there expires if the person has not accepted or declined it within 14 days. That window is for UK accounts, so do not assume it applies to a US account.

The step you control is the follow-up. Put the reason and the date in the note, and send a message yourself after a few days. [How to politely remind a friend to pay you back](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/remind-a-friend-to-pay-you-back) has wording that works.

If you also track the dinner in EvenOut, its Remind sheet gives you two ways to nudge. "Share a message" opens the share menu with a prefilled text and a settle-up link, and "Email via EvenOut" sends a friendly email with the amount. Each person gets at most one reminder a day for a given group or friend.

## What does it cost to be paid?

As of October 2026, receiving money on Cash App is free. Sending is free from a Cash balance or a linked debit card, and 3% from a linked credit card. A friend who pays your $35 share from a credit card adds $1.05.

Payment links have their own line. Cash App lists no fee for paying through a link unless the payment is funded by a credit card. How much an account can send and receive is a separate question, answered in [Cash App limits](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/cash-app-limits).

## Where does EvenOut fit?

A Cash App request is one charge for one amount. For costs that build up over weeks, EvenOut keeps a running balance with each friend, and "Add a guest" tracks the share of someone who is not on EvenOut yet. EvenOut records the settle-up and does not move money, so the payment still goes through Cash App.
