# Is Splitwise Pro worth it? Match it to how you split

It depends on which of Pro's tools you would use. EvenOut's free plan has no daily expense limit and no ads, and its charts and search are free. As of October 2026, Splitwise Pro removes the free plan's limit of 4 expenses a day and adds currency conversion, receipt scanning, charts and search. A roommate group may never need Pro; a trip organizer logging 7 expenses a day might.

Key points:
- EvenOut's free plan has no daily expense limit and no ads, and charts and search, which Splitwise lists under Pro, are free there.
- Pro ends the cap of 4 expenses a day. If you rarely log more than 4 in a day, that part adds little.
- A trip day with 7 expenses is 3 over the cap if one free user logs them all, but two free users logging 4 each stay under it.
- Only Pro converts currencies, and conversion changes every expense in the group, settled ones included. Splitwise says reversing it through support is not always possible.
- No Pro item changes who can edit an expense. Splitwise says it has no group admins, while an EvenOut group owner can limit editing to "Only their own".

## What does Splitwise Pro change?

Pro removes a daily cap and adds a set of tools. As of October 2026, Splitwise's free users can add up to 4 expenses each day, and Pro removes that limit. It also adds receipt scanning, itemization, currency conversion, charts broken down by category, expense search, default splits, transaction import (the Pro page says only in the US), an ad-free app and early access to new features. [The full Pro list](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/splitwise-pro-features) says which pages label each item.

The price is not on the pages you can read logged out. Splitwise's Pro and sign-up pages list features and no price, and its Terms say the price may vary by date of subscription, country, local taxes and regulations, and promotions. Read the number on the purchase screen, and see [what Splitwise Pro costs](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/splitwise-pro-cost-and-plans) for how the plans are billed.

## Which kind of splitter are you?

EvenOut's free plan covers the cap, charts and search that Splitwise puts in Pro. The table sets six common uses against the Splitwise Pro item that matters and the free fix to try first.

| Your use | EvenOut free plan | Splitwise Pro item that matters | Free fix in Splitwise |
|---|---|---|---|
| A roommate group logging a few bills a week | No daily expense limit | The cap of 4 a day, which you may never reach | Stay on the free plan |
| One person logging a whole trip day | No daily expense limit, so one person can log all 7 | Removal of the 4 a day cap | Combine expenses with the same payer and split, or ask a friend to add some as paid by you |
| A trip in two currencies | Balances kept per currency, no conversion | Currency conversion | Keep a separate balance per currency and settle each one |
| Diners with a receipt for every meal | Free "By item" split entered by hand; scanning is Pro | Receipt scanning and itemization | Enter each person's amount with the exact amounts split |
| A couple | No daily limit and no ads on the free plan | The Duo plan, billed once a year for two people | Each partner adds their own purchases, so each has their own 4 a day |
| Someone who reads totals by category | Charts and search are free | Charts and expense search | Export the group to a spreadsheet and filter it there |

The exact-amounts and export fixes work because neither is labelled Pro. Splitwise's help center documents spreadsheet export by friend or group with no Pro label, and says a JSON account backup is for Pro subscribers only.

## When does 4 a day start to cost you?

It costs you on days one person logs a lot. Say a group spends on 7 things a day over a 3-day weekend, which is 21 expenses. If one free user logs all of them, the free plan covers 12 and 9 are left over. A single day shows it: 7 expenses is 3 over the cap.

If the logging is shared, the numbers change. Two free users who log 4 each can record 8 a day, which covers 7. So the cap matters most for the person who becomes the group's bookkeeper, and much less for a group where whoever pays also logs.

When one person logs everything, Pro removes the cap at once, and EvenOut's free plan has no daily expense limit to remove. For a single trip, the yearly plans have another route: each includes one annual Trip Pass, which can be applied to a trip group and grants Pro features to its members for 30 days. Splitwise Trip Pass explains what it covers. The [daily limit guide](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/splitwise-daily-limit) lists the ways around the cap.

## What does currency conversion do before you press it?

Splitwise keeps a separate balance per currency until you convert, and conversion is a Pro button. Without it, changing an expense's currency only changes the label. Say you owe $45.00 and are owed 60.00 euros in the same group. Those stay as two lines.

With Pro, the "Convert to [your default currency]" button converts every expense in the group or friendship at the current rate, settled ones included. That can change other people's balances, and expenses you add later need another tap. Splitwise says reversing a conversion by emailing support "isn't always possible". Splitwise says it takes the rate from Open Exchange Rates at the moment you convert.

So decide first whether the group wants one total. If settling each currency on its own is fine, the free plan already does that. [Does Splitwise convert currency](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/does-splitwise-convert-currency) goes through the details.

## What does Pro leave unchanged?

Pro does not change who can edit an expense. Splitwise says it does not support group admins or special permissions, and anyone involved in an expense or its group can edit or delete it. None of the items on the Pro list covers permissions, so a roommate can still change the rent line.

Several features are not part of Pro. Simplify Debts, recurring expenses, offline mode and cloud sync are on Splitwise's core free list, and spreadsheet export is not labelled Pro.

## How does EvenOut compare?

EvenOut's free plan has no daily expense limit and no ads. Charts, search, repeating expenses and the Splitwise import are free there too, while Splitwise lists charts and search under Pro. EvenOut's paid features are receipt scanning and the assistant, at $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year in the US. Receipt scanning is paid in both apps.

On permissions, a group's owner in EvenOut can limit editing to "Only their own", and the Viewer role can comment but not add or change expenses. If you need currency conversion or a spreadsheet export, EvenOut has neither. If your history sits in Splitwise, [moving a Splitwise group to EvenOut](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/move-splitwise-group-to-evenout) takes a spreadsheet export and the free import.

## What should you do next?

Count the days in the last month when you wanted to add more than 4 expenses, and write down which Pro items you would have used. If the list is the cap, charts or search, EvenOut's free plan covers all three with no daily expense limit and no ads, so try it before you subscribe. If it is currency conversion or receipt scanning, read the price on the purchase screen and set it against how often you would use that one tool. If the list is empty, you do not need Pro. [How to cancel Splitwise Pro](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/cancel-splitwise-pro) covers the exit if you subscribe and it does not fit.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does only the person who pays for Pro get the features?

Only Pro subscribers can scan receipts or convert currency, but all group members see the expenses created that way. The daily cap applies to free users who add expenses.

### Can a yearly plan help one trip?

Yes. The yearly plans include one annual Trip Pass, which you can apply to any trip group you choose, and it grants Pro features to the group's members for 30 days. The monthly plan is for one person and is not listed with a Trip Pass.

### Where do you read what Pro costs?

On the purchase screen at the moment you subscribe. Splitwise's Pro and sign-up pages list features with no price when you are logged out, and its Terms say the price can vary with the date, your country, local taxes and promotions.

### How do you cancel Splitwise Pro or ask for a refund?

Cancel in the app under Account, then Splitwise Pro, or on the web with Cancel subscription. A purchase made through Apple or Google is refunded by them. For one made directly with Splitwise you can request a refund, and Splitwise says funds return in 5 to 10 business days. The cancel guide has the steps.
