Updated: 2026-10-06

As of October 2026, NYT All Access Family costs $8 every 4 weeks for the first 6 months, then $34 every 4 weeks, for four logins. Split four ways that is $2.00 each, then $8.50. Billing every 4 weeks means 13 charges a year, so the yearly cost is $442, not 12 times $34.

Key points:
- All Access Family is $8 every 4 weeks for 6 months, then $34. It covers up to 3 individuals besides you, so four logins in all.
- Per login every 4 weeks: $8.50 at the regular price, $2.00 at the intro price, and $2.50 on Games Family ($10) with four logins.
- A 4-week cycle bills 13 times a year. At $34 that is $442, about $36.83 a month, not the $408 that 12 charges would suggest.
- Family costs $4 more per cycle than Individual All Access ($34 against $30), so it is cheaper per person once two people share.
- EvenOut repeats run weekly, monthly or yearly only, so use a monthly average, a weekly $8.50, or Duplicate expense each cycle.

## How much is the NYT family subscription?

As of October 2026, NYT All Access Family is $8 every 4 weeks for your first 6 months, then $34 every 4 weeks. It lets you give access to up to 3 individuals, so four logins in all, and NYT's page says "no matter who they are". Minors are not eligible. Prices are in US dollars, before any tax.

Two other plans matter for the comparison. Games Family is $10 every 4 weeks, also with four logins. Individual All Access is $4 every 4 weeks for six months, then $30 every 4 weeks.

## What does each person pay every 4 weeks?

At four logins, the regular Family price comes to $8.50 each. These figures are plain division of the plan price. They are not prices NYT charges members, and they assume every login is used and the cost is shared equally.

| Plan | Price every 4 weeks | Each of four logins |
|---|---|---|
| All Access Family, first 6 months | $8.00 | $2.00 |
| All Access Family, regular | $34.00 | $8.50 |
| Games Family | $10.00 | $2.50 |

NYT's own page prices the plan per week: $2 a week at the intro price and $8.50 a week at the regular price, and $2.50 a week for Games Family. Those figures divide the plan price by 4 weeks. The per-login figures here divide it by 4 logins, which happens to land on the same numbers every 4 weeks.

Fewer people means bigger shares, because the plan price does not change. Here is the regular Family price at each head count, with the yearly figure based on 13 charges.

| People using it | Each every 4 weeks | Each per year |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $34.00 | $442.00 |
| 2 | $17.00 | $221.00 |
| 3 | $11.33 | $147.33 |
| 4 | $8.50 | $110.50 |

Three people sharing $34 pay $11.33, $11.33 and $11.34, so the cents add up to the charge.

## When does Family beat Individual?

Family beats Individual from the second person. Family costs $4 more per cycle than Individual All Access, at both the intro price ($8 against $4) and the regular price ($34 against $30). Over 13 cycles that is $52 a year. One person on Family pays $442 a year against $390 on Individual. Two people each pay $221 on Family, against $390 each on separate Individual plans.

Four separate Individual plans would be $120 every 4 weeks, against $34 for Family.

## Why is 4-week billing not the same as monthly?

Every 4 weeks means 13 charges in 52 weeks, so $34 a cycle is $442 a year, or about $36.83 a month ($442 divided by 12). Twelve charges of $34 would be $408, which is one whole charge short. Per login that is $110.50 a year, about $9.21 a month, against the $102 you would get from 12 charges.

Two quirks follow from the arithmetic:

- **One month a year holds two charges.** With 13 charges in 12 months, at least one calendar month gets two. A charge on the 1st of a 31-day month is followed by the next on the 29th.
- **Some calendar years hold 14.** Thirteen cycles is 364 days, and a year is 365 or 366. If a charge falls on January 1, the 14th lands on December 31.

If you collect from the other logins per charge, neither quirk matters. Send the amount on the charge divided by four: $8.50 each at the regular price.

## How do you track a 4-week charge in EvenOut?

EvenOut's repeat options are Weekly, Monthly and Yearly, so a 4-week cycle has no exact match. Three ways work, and each treats the odd cycle differently:

1. **Monthly average.** Add the expense at $36.83 with "Paid by" set to whoever pays NYT, split 4 ways ($9.21, $9.21, $9.21 and $9.20), and set "Repeat" to Monthly. Twelve of them total $441.96, which is 4 cents under $442. During the intro the average is lower, about $8.67 a month ($8 times 13 charges is $104, divided by 12), so when the price steps up, use "Stop repeating" and set up a new one at the new amount.
2. **Weekly at $8.50.** Four weeks of $8.50 is $34, and 52 weeks is $442 exactly. It adds 52 small expenses a year, each split four ways as two shares of $2.13 and two of $2.12.
3. **Duplicate each cycle.** Open last cycle's expense, tap "Duplicate expense", set the date under "When was this?" and save. It matches the real charge dates and takes 13 saves a year.

Each person records what they pay with "Settle up". EvenOut records payments and does not move money, so the transfer happens outside it.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do the people on the plan have to live in the same household?

As of October 2026, NYT's family page says you can give access to up to 3 individuals, 'no matter who they are'. Minors are not eligible.

### What if I collect from the other three once a month?

Collecting $8.50 once a month brings in $102 a year from each person, against $110.50 for 13 charges. Across the three others the person who pays NYT is out $25.50. Collect on each charge date, or use the monthly average of $9.21 each.

### What happens to each person's share when the intro ends?

A four-way share goes from $2.00 to $8.50 every 4 weeks, a jump of $6.50 per person. The intro covers the first 6 months, so tell the other logins before it ends and update any repeating expense you set up.

### Can I split it with someone who is not on EvenOut?

Yes, inside a group. 'Add a guest' tracks their share now, and you can invite them to claim it later. They do not need an account to appear in the split.
