Yes. Apple's Family Sharing lets one iCloud+ plan be shared with up to five other family members, so six people in all, and everyone keeps their own Apple Account. The space is one shared pool. As of October 2026, a 2 TB plan costs $9.99 a month, which is $1.67 each when six people share it.

Key points:
- Family Sharing covers the organizer plus up to five others, so 6 people. Every iCloud+ tier can be shared this way.
- Everyone keeps their own Apple Account. Only the plan's space and features are shared, so photos and documents stay private.
- A member with their own paid plan can switch to the shared one and get a refund for the remainder, but cannot keep both.
- The space is one pool, so an unequal cost split is a matter of agreement. EvenOut's By shares option records it to the cent.

## Can you split iCloud+ storage with family?

Yes, through Family Sharing, which shares one plan instead of cutting storage into pieces. As of October 2026, one adult, the organizer, invites up to five other family members, so six people can share. Everyone keeps their own Apple Account, and only the plan's space and features are shared. A Child Account is required for anyone under 13.

## Can you combine two people's iCloud storage?

Accounts do not merge, because everyone keeps their own Apple Account. You pool storage by choosing one plan for the group. A member who already pays for their own iCloud+ plan can switch to the shared one and get a refund for the rest of their own plan. They cannot keep both at the same time. Members on the free 5 GB tier are added to the shared plan automatically.

## How much does each person pay?

Plain division shows what each person pays when the seats are filled: a 2 TB plan shared by six comes to $1.67 each, and the same plan shared by three comes to $3.33 each. Apple charges one price for the plan, not a price per member, so these are not official per-person prices, they are rounded to the cent and they assume every seat is used.

| Plan | Price a month | Each of 3 | Each of 6 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50 GB | $0.99 | $0.33 | $0.17 |
| 200 GB | $2.99 | $1.00 | $0.50 |
| 2 TB | $9.99 | $3.33 | $1.67 |
| 6 TB | $29.99 | $10.00 | $5.00 |
| 12 TB | $59.99 | $20.00 | $10.00 |

Some US states add tax on top of these prices.

## Is a shared plan cheaper than separate ones?

Sharing costs less per person on the same tier, but moving up to a bigger shared tier can cost each person a little more than their own small plan did. Three people on separate 200 GB plans pay $8.97 a month in total. One shared 200 GB plan costs $2.99, which is $1.00 each, but the three now draw on 200 GB between them. Moving up to one shared 2 TB plan costs $9.99, which is $3.33 each, so each person pays $0.34 more than for their own 200 GB and gets a 2 TB pool. Six people on separate 50 GB plans pay $5.94 in total, while one 200 GB plan shared by six costs $2.99, which is $0.50 each instead of $0.99.

## How do you share the plan?

Setup takes three steps.

1. **Set up Family Sharing.** The organizer invites up to five other people.
2. **Share the plan.** In Family settings, open Subscriptions, choose iCloud+ and follow the steps to share your plan. The organizer does not have to be the person who shares it.
3. **Let members switch.** A member on a paid plan of their own picks the shared plan when they are ready, and Apple refunds the remainder of their old one.

## How do you split the cost unevenly?

The shared space is one pool, so an unequal split is something you agree among yourselves. Say Maya, Ben and Chloe share a 2 TB plan at $9.99 a month. Maya keeps the family's photo library, so the three agree on shares of 3, 1 and 1.

- **Equal split:** $9.99 divided by 3 is $3.33 each.
- **By shares:** 5 shares in total, so Maya pays 3 of 5, which is $5.99, and Ben and Chloe pay $2.00 each.

Maya pays $2.66 more than an equal split, and Ben and Chloe each pay $1.33 less. That adds back up to $9.99. In EvenOut this is the "By shares" option: you type the shares, and each person's dollar amount shows under their name before you save. The cents are shared out, so nothing goes missing.

To keep it going, add the charge as an expense in a group, choose the Subscriptions category, set "Paid by" to whoever is billed, then open "Photo, repeat, pending or note" and set Repeat to Monthly. Each later charge is added for you.

## What happens if someone leaves the plan?

A member who uses more than 5 GB can buy their own plan. Without one, once their content takes more space than they have, new photos and videos stop uploading to iCloud Photos and their devices stop backing up. Settle up what they owe, and give them time to buy a plan before sharing ends.

## Frequently asked questions

### Who can buy more storage on a shared plan?

The family organizer or the family member who bought the plan can buy more, up to 12 TB. When space runs low, all members get a notification, and anyone else can ask one of those two people to upgrade.

### Can another family member take over sharing the plan?

Yes. Apple says the organizer does not have to be the person who shares iCloud+, and another member can take over sharing with the whole family group. If that happens, stop the old repeating expense in EvenOut and add the next charge as paid by the new person, so the split still matches who is billed.

### Can children be part of a shared iCloud+ plan?

Yes, as family members in the group. Apple says a Child Account is required for children under 13 and available for children up to 18, and that the age threshold varies by state, country or region. The plan is one price for the whole group, so a child in the group does not change the bill.

### Does EvenOut collect each person's share of the plan?

No. EvenOut records who paid and who owes, and Settle up records a payment between people. It does not move money and has no payment links, so you repay each other the way you already do.
