Spotify Family is for up to 6 family members who live at the same address, so split it among the family members in your home. At $21.99 a month, six people pay about $3.67 each, four pay $5.50 and three pay $7.33. The person who holds the plan records the bill and everyone else repays a share each month.

Key points:
- Spotify Family is $21.99 a month in the US and is for up to 6 family members residing at the same address.
- Spotify asks you to verify your home address when you activate the plan, and it can ask again or suspend access.
- Six people pay about $3.67 each, five pay $4.40, four pay $5.50, three pay $7.33 and two pay $11.00.
- In EvenOut, set the bill as Paid by you, Split equally, category Subscriptions and Repeat Monthly. Leave unused seats out.

## Who can share a Spotify Family plan?

Family members who live at the same address. As of October 2026, Spotify describes Family as "for up to 6 family members residing at the same address." Its paid subscription terms go further: every member "must be family members residing at the same address."

Spotify asks you to verify your home address when the plan is activated. It may ask again later, and it may suspend access if you fail the eligibility check. A friend who lives somewhere else does not fit that wording. If your housemates are not family members, read the terms before you add them, because the wording is about family.

The terms also say a member can leave a plan and join another household plan at most once in every 12 months. Settle on the plan before people join, since someone who moves cannot move again for a year.

## What does each person pay?

Family costs $21.99 a month in the US, and the price stays the same whether two seats are in use or six. The amounts below are that price divided by the people who use it, rounded to the cent, and the last column is twelve months at today's price.

| People on the plan | Each pays a month | Each pays over 12 months |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | $3.67 | $43.98 |
| 5 | $4.40 | $52.78 |
| 4 | $5.50 | $65.97 |
| 3 | $7.33 | $87.96 |
| 2 | $11.00 | $131.94 |

Rounding needs care. $21.99 split four ways is $5.4975, which no one can pay exactly. EvenOut shares out the leftover cents, so three people pay $5.50 and one pays $5.49, and the shares still add up to $21.99. Six people work the same way: three pay $3.67 and three pay $3.66.

For two people, Duo at $18.99 a month works out to about $9.50 each. The full price comparison is in [Duo against Family for two to six people](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/spotify-duo-vs-family-cost).

## How do you split it in EvenOut?

Say you hold the plan and four people in your home use it. Here is the setup, which takes a minute.

1. **Make a group.** Tap to create a new group and choose "Household" ("Rent and bills"). Add the people who use the plan. Someone who is not on EvenOut yet can be added with "Add a guest" and invited later.
2. **Add the bill.** Tap "Add expense", type 21.99 and write Spotify Family under "What was this for?". Set the category to Subscriptions.
3. **Set who paid and how it splits.** The chip reads "Paid by you" when you hold the plan. Leave "Split equally" on. If a group member does not use the plan, tap their name to leave them out ("Tap someone to leave them out").
4. **Repeat it monthly.** Open "Photo, repeat, pending or note", tap "Repeat" and choose "Monthly". The expense you save is the first one, and EvenOut adds each later one for you with the same payer and split, around 9:00 in your time zone. Setting up a repeat needs a connection.
5. **Settle up each month.** When someone pays you, they or you tap "Settle up" and "Record payment". EvenOut moves no money, so people pay you however they already do.

If a housemate forgets, "Remind" shares a message or sends an email with the amount and a settle-up link.

## What if some seats stay empty?

You can split among only the people who use the plan, which is what the table assumes. Four users pay $5.50 each on a six-seat plan, and the two empty seats cost nobody anything extra. The owner decides whether to fill them. Filling a seat lowers everyone's share, but only with someone who meets Spotify's address rule.

## What does a month look like once it is set up?

Take a household of five where four people use the plan. Each month EvenOut adds the $21.99 expense by itself. Over a year that is $263.88, or $65.97 per person for the four of you.

The three other people each see that they owe you about $5.50. They pay you in cash or any app, and each of them (or you) taps "Settle up" on that balance card and "Record payment". Partial amounts work, so someone who sends $3.00 first still shows $2.50 owed. As the plan holder, you see each person's balance with you under "Balances" on the group page, so you can tell who has not paid yet.

Friends who live at a different address are outside Spotify's rule for Family. They would hold their own plan, such as Individual at $12.99 a month, and you can still use EvenOut for the shared costs you do have.

## What should you do next?

Check the address rule first, then add the people who qualify and set the monthly repeat. If you also share streaming or software plans, [tracking shared subscriptions and renewals](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/track-shared-subscriptions) keeps them in one place, and the [shared plan cost per person calculator](https://www.evenoutapp.com/tools/shared-plan-cost-per-person-calculator) does the division for any plan price and head count. Plan prices and rules from other services are collected in [shared subscription plans compared](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/shared-subscription-plans-compared).

## Frequently asked questions

### What if someone moves out of the household?

Open Repeating expenses from the group menu and use Stop repeating (expenses already added stay), then add a new monthly expense split among the people who remain.

### Can a Spotify Student plan be split?

There is nothing to split. Student is $6.99 a month for 1 verified account, open to eligible accredited higher-education students, so each student holds their own.

### Do the per-person prices include tax?

No. The figures here are US prices before tax divided by the number of people, so they are arithmetic, not prices Spotify charges anyone. Your bill may differ where tax applies.

### Does EvenOut collect the money from everyone?

No. EvenOut records who paid and who owes. Each person pays the plan holder by whatever method you already use, then records it with Settle up.
