In Tricount you create a tricount for a trip or household, add up to 50 people, then add each expense and split it equally or by custom amounts. The Balances screen proposes repayments and you mark them as paid. Each tricount has one currency, and other currencies are converted at the market rate. EvenOut splits five ways and adds weekly, monthly or yearly bills on its own.

Key points:
- A tricount is one group with one currency and up to 50 people, including you. People join by tapping the invite link.
- To split unevenly, tap 'Equally' in the Split area and edit each person's share or amount.
- Repayments are proposed to limit the number of transactions. Mark one as paid on the Balances screen, or add the reimbursement as a transfer.
- EvenOut adds weekly, monthly or yearly bills on its own with Repeat, which is free. Tricount's own comparison page lists recurring bills as 'Add each bill manually'.
- EvenOut splits five ways and keeps each expense in its own currency, with a balance per currency. Tricount converts other currencies at the market rate.

## What is a tricount and how does it work?

A tricount is one group of people sharing costs, such as a trip or a household. As of October 2026, each tricount has a single currency and holds up to 50 people, including you. People join by tapping the link they receive, and Tricount's help center says "The app handles the rest." The home page says you can try it without signing up.

Tricount works from the same inputs as any expense splitter: what each expense cost, who paid it and who shares it. From those it keeps a balance for everyone. Its terms say the app is owned and operated by bunq B.V., and the [Tricount ownership guide](https://www.evenoutapp.com/guides/who-owns-tricount) has the dates.

## How do you create a tricount and add expenses?

Tricount's help center describes the basics in a few taps.

1. **Create the tricount.** Tap the "+" sign in the center, then set up the participants.
2. **Add people later if you need to.** Open the tricount, tap the menu at the top right, choose "Edit", enter the participant and save.
3. **Add an expense.** Open the tricount, tap "+" and adjust the expense.
4. **Delete an expense.** Long-press it and choose Delete.

Tricount also offers a Free Credit Card that tracks expenses automatically, but only to residents of 21 listed European countries, and the US is not one of them. Without the card, you type each expense in. Expenses can be added without a signal and sync when you are back online, and you can attach photos to an expense.

## How do you split an expense unevenly?

Tap "Equally" in the Split area, then edit each person's share or amount. The help center's own example is a $1,050 rent between three roommates split as $400, $350 and $300.

Tricount tracks amounts to the cent. Its FAQ gives €100 across 3 people as €33.34 and €33.33, so the extra cent goes to one person and the total still adds up.

## How does Tricount work out repayments?

Tricount proposes repayments that aim to limit the number of transactions. You can see the logic by working one through. Say four friends keep a tricount in euros for a weekend. Lena paid the €150 hotel, Marc paid €90 for fuel and Tom paid a €60 dinner. Ines paid nothing. All three expenses are split equally four ways, so everyone's share is €300 divided by 4, which is €75.

| Person | Paid | Share | Balance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lena | €150 | €75 | +€75 |
| Marc | €90 | €75 | +€15 |
| Tom | €60 | €75 | -€15 |
| Ines | €0 | €75 | -€75 |

Two payments settle all four people: Ines pays Lena €75, and Tom pays Marc €15. Settling each expense on its own would take nine separate payments, three people paying each of the three payers.

When someone pays, use "Mark as paid" on the Balances screen for a suggested reimbursement. You can also add the reimbursement like an expense and switch its type to "transfer". Tricount's three transaction types are expense, income and transfer.

## How do currencies work in Tricount?

Each tricount uses one currency, and you can still enter an expense in another one. Tricount converts it at the market rate and shows the daily exchange rate it used. If the tricount is in euros, reimbursement suggestions also appear in euros. Tricount's terms say the rate is for information only and that users are free to change it.

Say the day's rate were 0.90 euros per dollar. A $60.00 museum ticket would be recorded as €54.00, and that is the amount that enters the split.

## How does EvenOut handle the same jobs?

The two apps overlap on groups, uneven splits, offline use and photos. A few things differ, as of October 2026:

- **Split methods.** EvenOut offers five per expense: Equally, Exact amounts, Percent, Shares and By item.
- **Repeating bills.** In EvenOut, "Repeat" adds an expense weekly, monthly or yearly on its own, and managing repeats is free. Tricount's own comparison page with Splitwise lists recurring bills as "Add each bill manually".
- **Receipts.** EvenOut Pro, the paid tier, reads a receipt and splits its line items, tax and tip. Tricount's pages describe photo attachments, and EvenOut also attaches a photo to an expense.
- **Currencies.** EvenOut keeps each expense in the currency you paid and keeps a balance for each currency. It does not convert; Tricount converts into the tricount's currency.

## What should you do next?

Create one tricount for the trip or household, add everyone before the first expense, and enter each cost the day it happens. Use "Equally" when shares match and edit amounts when they do not. At the end, work from the Balances screen instead of from memory.

If your group repeats a bill such as rent every month or splits by item, EvenOut's free plan has five split methods and a Repeat option that adds the bill on its own.
