How do EvenOut, Splitwise and Splid compare?

EvenOut’s free plan has no daily expense limit and no ads, and its charts, search and repeating expenses are free. Splitwise is an account-based service whose Pro plan removes a 4 a day limit, and Splid has no sign-up and two in-app purchases on its US listing. All figures are as of October 2026.

App Free-plan limit Ads Best for Price
EvenOut No daily expense limit No ads Most groups: free, no daily limit, no ads, with repeating bills and charts Free; Pro is $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year (US), for receipt scanning and the assistant
Splitwise 4 expenses a day Its Pro page lists an ad-free experience Groups that want currency conversion, a Pro item Pro price varies by plan and country
Splid Group limit not mentioned Says it does not use your data for advertising A quick group where nobody wants to sign up Free to download; in-app purchases of $3.99 and $2.99 (US listing)

Who has to sign up, and how does a group get shared?

EvenOut needs an account but lets you track a person who has not joined, Splitwise needs an account for everyone who uses it, and Splid needs none. The gap shows up the moment one friend refuses to install anything.

Say four friends are splitting a ski weekend and Dana will not make an account.

  • EvenOut. The others sign in with Google or email. In a group, Dana can be added as a guest, which tracks her share now and lets you invite her later. Only the person who created the guest can make the claim link, which is single-use and lasts 7 days. When Dana claims it, her shares move to her real account.
  • Splitwise. The others create an account. Registration asks for a name, email, phone number and password, and the email is required. You cannot join a group on your own, because a member invites you by email, phone or invite link. Dana can still be added to expenses before she accepts, for as long as you like. Splitwise sends her one invite and one reminder, then leaves her alone.
  • Splid. Nobody signs up. You choose per group whether to share it online, and sharing works through an access code that Dana uses to join. Join codes have been nine characters since March 2023 (version 1.8.1), up from six. A group you do not share stays only on the device that made it.

Splid says that for a shared group, the group name, member names, and expense titles and amounts are provided to Splid so that others can view and edit them. A group you keep on one device is not shared.

How do the free plans and paid extras differ?

EvenOut has no daily expense limit on its free plan, Splitwise limits free accounts to 4 expenses a day, and Splid does not mention a group limit.

EvenOut. No daily expense limit and no ads. Charts, search, repeating expenses and the Splitwise import are free. Only receipt scanning and the assistant are paid, at $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year.

Splitwise. Splitwise says free users can add up to 4 expenses each day and that Pro removes the limit. Say the ski weekend logs 11 expenses on each of 3 days (lift tickets, rentals, gas, groceries and so on). That is 33 expenses, and a free account covers 12 of them at 4 a day. The other 21 wait for the limit to reset, get added by a friend as paid by you, or need Pro. On EvenOut’s free plan all 33 go in. Splitwise Pro also adds receipt scanning, itemizing, charts, search, currency conversion and default splits.

Splid. The site says Splid is free to download, and the US listing shows “Free” with in-app purchases: Splid Plus at $3.99 and 2 Groups at $2.99. The listing gives no billing period and does not say what either purchase covers. Its listing descriptions footnote that Excel export is available via in-app purchase, while the website lists PDF and Excel summaries with no footnote.

How do they handle currencies and fewest payments?

Say Ana pays 60 euros for a dinner and Ben pays $75 for tickets, and they split both equally. Ben owes Ana 30 euros, and Ana owes Ben $37.50.

  • EvenOut keeps two balances. You pick the currency on each expense from 154, and the Balances list shows a separate line per currency. EvenOut does not convert.
  • Splitwise keeps those as two separate balances by default. Converting is a Pro button that converts every expense in the group or friendship at the current rate, settled ones included, which can change other people’s balances. Splitwise says reversing it by emailing support is not always possible.
  • Splid converts the amounts automatically across more than 150 currencies. Its listing example is expenses in dollars that are settled up in euros.

For fewest payments, EvenOut’s “Simplify debts” is a group setting tagged “Recommended”, on by default, and any member who is not a viewer can flip it. Splitwise’s Simplify Debts restructures who owes whom inside a group and never changes anyone’s total. Any group member can turn it on or off in the group settings, and with several currencies it works within each one separately. Splid’s listing says it always finds the easiest way to settle up and mentions no switch.

Which features does each app list?

Splid’s official pages are silent on recurring expenses, charts, receipt scanning and imports, while Splitwise puts charts, search and receipt scanning in Pro. “Not mentioned” below means the pages say nothing either way, not that the feature is missing.

Feature EvenOut Splitwise Splid
Recurring expenses Weekly, monthly, yearly, free; pause, resume or stop Weekly, fortnightly, monthly, yearly, free Not mentioned
Charts Free, per group or per friend Pro Not mentioned
Search Free, works offline Pro Search by title
Receipt scanning Pro Pro Not mentioned
Moving in a Splitwise group Free, one group per spreadsheet file Not applicable Not mentioned
Who can edit Everyone or Only their own, plus a Viewer role that cannot add or change expenses Anyone in the group or expense Not mentioned

In EvenOut, charts, search and repeating expenses need no paid plan. Receipt scanning and the assistant are its two Pro features.

Which one should you pick?

Pick by the situation, not by the brand.

  • A household or group that logs expenses all year. EvenOut. Its free plan has no daily expense limit and no ads, and it includes repeating expenses and charts. Splitwise’s free plan allows 4 expenses a day.
  • You already have history in Splitwise. EvenOut brings a group over for free from the spreadsheet export, one group per file. The steps are in how to move a Splitwise group to EvenOut.
  • One person will not sign up. EvenOut tracks them as a guest, by name, until they claim their spot.
  • Nobody should sign up for anything. Splid, because there is no sign-up and the group moves by code.
  • One total across several currencies, or a PDF or spreadsheet of the totals. Splid converts automatically and lists PDF and Excel summaries, and Splitwise Pro converts while Splitwise lists spreadsheet export. EvenOut has neither.

Frequently asked questions

How do you delete a Splid group?

A group you have not shared online is kept only on your device, and deleting it from the device deletes it. A shared group is deleted by emailing Splid, which makes it permanent and removes it for everyone with access. Splitwise account deletion is separate: it may take up to 30 days and is irreversible.

Can you move a Splitwise group into Splid or EvenOut?

EvenOut imports a Splitwise spreadsheet export for free, one group per file, up to 2 MB, 20,000 rows and 100 members. People are suggested by name and you confirm each match, and the original split methods and notes are not recovered, though the balances are. Splid's official pages do not mention an import.

Is Splid priced the same in every country?

Each country's listing shows its own prices in local currency. The US listing shows Splid Plus at $3.99 and 2 Groups at $2.99, the UK listing shows £3.99 and £2.99, and the German listing shows 3,99 € and 2,99 €. None of the listings gives a billing period or says what each purchase covers, so check the listing for your country before you buy.

Which of the three works without a connection?

In EvenOut you can add, edit, delete and restore expenses and record payments offline, and they sync later, but photos, repeating expenses, receipt scans, invites and adding a guest need a connection. Splid says it works on and offline and lets you create an offline group, and Splitwise lists offline mode among its core features.
