What is each app for?
EvenOut keeps the balance between the same people over many expenses, and Splitty splits one restaurant check. EvenOut starts from a group or a friend, not from one bill. Every expense changes a running balance, and Settle up records the payment that clears it.
Splitty’s FAQ describes it as an app for one-time splits like restaurant bills. You scan the receipt, tap who had each item, and it sends a payment request through Venmo, Cash App or PayPal. It sends requests, not money. Apps to split a restaurant bill lines both up against the other dinner options.
How does one dinner work in each app?
Say four friends order $34.00, $26.00, $18.00 and $12.00 of food, which is $90.00. Tax is 9% ($8.10) and the tip is 18% of the food ($16.20), so the check is $114.30. The extras add 27%, so each person pays their order times 1.27: $43.18, $33.02, $22.86 and $15.24.
In EvenOut, “By item” is free. Add a line per dish with chips for who had it, then add one more line per person for tax and tip, because the items must add up to the total. Those lines are $9.18, $7.02, $4.86 and $3.24. EvenOut does not show per-person totals while you build the split, so work those four numbers out first. With Pro, scanning the receipt divides tax and tip in proportion for you.
Splitty reaches those shares from a scan. It reads the tax from the check and divides it in proportion to each person’s items, and it divides a tip you enter the same way. Typing the check in by hand is always free, and the first 3 scans are free.
What happens after the dinner?
Say the four friends are Maya, Leo, Priya and Sam, in the order of those totals, and Maya paid the check. In EvenOut the dinner is the first entry in a running balance. Say Leo pays an $80.00 dinner next month, split equally, $20.00 each. Across both dinners Maya is owed $51.12 and Leo $26.98, while Priya owes $42.86 and Sam owes $35.24. Settling each pair directly takes five payments. With “Simplify debts” on, which it is by default, the group needs three. For example, Priya pays Maya $42.86, Sam pays Maya $8.26 and Sam pays Leo $26.98. How simplify debts works has the method. EvenOut records each payment but does not move money, and it has no payment links.
In Splitty, Leo, Priya and Sam each get a request for their share and the split is done. Its FAQ describes the app as for one-time splits, not recurring expenses.
What does each one cost?
EvenOut’s free plan has no ads and no daily expense limit. It includes By item, percent and shares splits, charts, search and repeating expenses. Receipt scanning is part of Pro, along with the assistant, at $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year (US, as of August 2026).
Splitty’s FAQ says typing a bill in by hand is always free and you get 3 free receipt scans. After that it is $9.99 a year or $24.99 lifetime. Its product listing shows three purchases (as of October 2026): splitty PRO at $4.99 with no period shown, Annual at $9.99 and Lifetime at $24.99.
Which one should you use?
Use EvenOut when the same people keep sharing costs: rent, groceries, a trip, dinners taken in turns. A bill can repeat weekly, monthly or yearly, and a split can be by percent, which Splitty does not offer directly, or by shares. The free plan has no ads and no daily expense limit. For other apps that read receipts, see AI bill splitting apps, and more expense splitting apps covers the rest of the field.
Use Splitty for a single dinner when your friends will not install anything and you want requests sent through Venmo, Cash App or PayPal.

Frequently asked questions
Does Splitty keep a copy of my receipt?
Splitty's FAQ says it does not store your receipts or the items on them, and that the scan is read in the cloud. Its Terms say images are uploaded to its servers and stored. In EvenOut, the server sends a scanned photo to an AI provider (Google's Gemini) to be read, after removing its location metadata, and the receipt image is not kept with the saved expense.
Can Splitty and EvenOut remember the people I split with?
Both do. EvenOut keeps each group and each friend as a running balance with Settle up, so the same people stay together from one expense to the next. Splitty lets you save a group of people, such as roommates or a work lunch crew, and reuse it for faster splitting, though its FAQ still describes the app as for one-time splits, not recurring expenses.
Do Splitty and EvenOut convert currencies?
Neither does. EvenOut offers 154 currencies, chosen on each expense, and keeps balances per currency. Splitty's FAQ says it supports 180+ currencies, takes the default from your device's locale and does not convert between them. Say a lunch is logged in yen and a taxi in dollars: EvenOut keeps a yen line and a dollar line and each is settled in its own currency.
Does a friend need EvenOut to split a dinner with me?
In a group you can choose Add a guest and type a name for someone who is not on EvenOut yet. Their share counts from the first expense, and you can invite them later to claim it with a single-use link that lasts 7 days. Splitty's FAQ says friends need no app and just get a normal payment request.
