What does Venmo charge for sending, receiving and transfers?

As of October 2026, the fees that touch splitting a bill sit in three places: funding a payment with a credit card, receiving a goods and services payment, and Instant Transfer. Everything else in the table is $0.00. All amounts are in US dollars.

Action Fee Note
Send to a Venmo user from balance, debit card or bank $0.00 Free whichever of the three you use
Send to a Venmo user with a credit card 3.00% $3.00 on $100
Receive a personal payment $0.00 From Venmo users
Receive a payment marked goods and services 2.99% The recipient pays it, $2.99 on $100
Standard transfer to a bank or debit card $0.00 Typically 1 to 3 business days to a bank, about 48 hours to an eligible debit card
Instant Transfer 1.75% Minimum $0.25, maximum $25, typically minutes
Account setup and monthly fees $0.00 None

Fees can change. Venmo’s fees page also lists charges outside this page’s scope, such as cashing a check, adding cash at stores, ATM withdrawals with the Venmo debit card, crypto trades, currency conversion and the Venmo credit card. The Venmo fee calculator works out the cost for any amount you type in.

How much does an Instant Transfer cost?

It costs 1.75% of the amount, never less than $0.25 and never more than $25. That makes small and large transfers cost a different share of the money.

Amount Fee Share of the amount
$10.00 $0.25 (the minimum applies) 2.5%
$20.00 $0.35 1.75%
$84.60 $1.48 1.75%
$500.00 $8.75 1.75%
$2,000.00 $25.00 (the maximum applies) 1.25%

The minimum applies to anything under about $14.29, because 1.75% of that is $0.25. The maximum starts at about $1,429, because 1.75% of that is $25. Between those two amounts the fee is a flat 1.75%.

What does it cost to send money on Venmo?

Nothing, unless you fund the payment with a credit card. Sending to another Venmo user from your balance, a debit card or a bank account is $0.00. A credit card adds 3.00%, which is $3.00 on $100 and $1.50 on $50. When you pay a friend your share of a dinner, how you fund the payment is the only thing that can add a fee.

What does it cost to receive money?

Receiving a personal payment from a Venmo user costs $0.00. The 2.99% fee applies when the sender marks a payment as goods and services, and Venmo charges it to the recipient. On $100 it is $2.99. On an $84.60 dinner share it is about $2.53.

So when friends repay you for a bill, ask them to send a personal payment and not goods and services. The sender chooses the type, so the fee is easy to avoid if you tell them before they pay.

How do you cash out without a fee?

Choose the standard transfer. It costs $0.00 and moves money to a linked bank account in typically 1 to 3 business days, or to an eligible debit card in about 48 hours. Instant Transfer is the paid option, and it is worth paying only when the money has to arrive in minutes.

What about a Venmo business profile?

A business profile has its own fee, 1.9% + $0.10 per payment received. It is not what you pay when you split a bill with friends, and the table above applies to a personal account.

How do you keep fees out of a group’s bills?

  1. Fund payments from a balance, debit card or bank account. That keeps sending at $0.00.
  2. Ask for personal payments. That keeps receiving at $0.00.
  3. Use the standard transfer when you move the money to your bank.
  4. Keep Instant Transfer for the times you need it. Under about $14.29 the flat $0.25 costs more than 1.75% would.

Fees are one question and limits are another, and the Venmo weekly limit guide covers how much you can send in a week and how to raise it. For how Venmo stacks up against other apps on cost, Cash App vs Venmo and Zelle vs Venmo compare the fees side by side.

EvenOut sits before the payment. It keeps the running balance for a household or a trip, and it records the settle-up, but it does not move money. You pay in Venmo or any other way, and EvenOut adds no fees of its own.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a limit on how much I can send, apart from fees?

Yes, and it is separate from fees. As of October 2026, Venmo lists a weekly spending limit of $299.99 for a personal account without identity verification, and up to $60,000 a week for a verified one, though payments can still be declined. Venmo can change its limits.

Can you use Venmo outside the US?

Venmo's User Agreement, effective August 24, 2026, says you must be in the United States and have a U.S. bank account to use the Venmo services. The fees on this page are in US dollars.

How do Venmo's fees compare with Cash App's?

Both charge 3% when you send with a linked credit card, and both are free to send from a balance or bank and free to receive. Instant transfers differ. Venmo's is 1.75% with a $0.25 minimum and a $25 maximum. Cash App's Terms say 0.5% to 2.5%, while its send page says 0.5% to 1.75%.

Does EvenOut charge anything to settle up?

No. EvenOut records the payment and does not move money, so it has no transfer fees, card-funding fees or sending limits of its own. You pay with Venmo or any other method, then record it with Settle up.
