Venmo weekly limit: what you can send and how to raise it

4 min read By The EvenOut team

Quick answer

As of October 2026, an unverified personal Venmo account has a weekly spending limit of $299.99. After you verify your identity, Venmo says it is possible to send up to $60,000 per week. The week is rolling: each payment counts against the limit for exactly one week from authorization. Venmo can change limits and can still decline a payment.

Key points

  • As of October 2026, unverified personal accounts have a $299.99 weekly spending limit, and verified accounts can send up to $60,000 a week.
  • The week is rolling. A payment counts for exactly one week from authorization, so a Monday 11:00 AM payment stops counting at 11:01 AM the next Monday.
  • Bank transfers are separate: $999.99 a week unverified, and $5,000.00 per transfer and $19,999.99 a week verified.
  • Verification happens in the Venmo mobile app only (Me, settings gear, Identity Verification) and needs an SSN or ITIN.
  • Venmo can change limits at its discretion, and a payment can be declined even when you are under the limit.

What is the Venmo weekly limit?

As of October 2026, an unverified personal Venmo account has a weekly spending limit of $299.99. It covers person-to-person payments and payments to authorized merchants. Once you verify your identity, Venmo says it is possible to send up to $60,000 per week. Transfers from Venmo to your bank have their own weekly limits.

Limit Not verified Verified
Spending and sending, per week $299.99 Up to $60,000
Transfer to your bank, per week $999.99 $19,999.99

A verified account can also move up to $5,000.00 in a single bank transfer. Venmo says it reviews limits periodically and retains sole discretion to apply and change them, so treat every figure here as the number on the date above.

How does the rolling week work?

Venmo calls most of its limits rolling weekly limits. A payment counts against your limit for exactly one week from the time it is authorized, then drops off by itself. There is no fixed reset day. Venmo’s own example is a payment made at 11:00 AM on a Monday, which stops counting at 11:01 AM the following Monday.

Say you send a friend $200.00 at 9:00 AM on Monday. That leaves $99.99 of the $299.99. On Wednesday a $100.00 payment would put you one cent over, so only $99.99 would fit. The $200.00 stops counting at 9:01 AM the next Monday, and any merchant payment in between, such as a $45.00 purchase, uses the same $299.99.

How do you raise the limit?

Verify your identity. Venmo says you can do this only in its mobile app, not on the website.

  1. Open the Me tab and tap the settings gear at the top right.
  2. Tap Identity Verification and follow the prompts. Venmo says it typically takes a few minutes.
  3. Have an SSN or ITIN ready. Without one you cannot complete verification.

Venmo may also ask you to verify when you send $300.00 or more within a rolling 7-day period, or to transfer $1000.00 or more to your bank in one week. After you verify, Venmo says you may be able to send and transfer larger amounts.

What does the limit mean for rent or a group bill?

It decides whether one payment is possible at all. Say your share of the rent is $1,200. An unverified account cannot send that in one payment, and even four full weeks at the cap come to 4 × $299.99 = $1,199.96, which is four cents short, with nothing else spent through Venmo in those weeks. A verified account has room for it under $60,000, though Venmo can still decline the payment.

The limit also adds up across payments. Say your share of a trip is $275.00 and your share of a dinner is $40.00. Each fits alone, but together they come to $315.00, which is $15.01 over $299.99 for the same rolling week.

If a cap means you can pay only part of what you owe this week, EvenOut’s “Settle up” accepts a partial payment and the rest stays owed until you record it. EvenOut does not move money, so it has no sending limit of its own. Zelle vs Venmo for rent compares limits, fees and roommate requests for rent.

What if a payment is declined under the limit?

A decline does not always mean you hit a limit. Venmo says a payment may be declined for reasons other than your limits, and a verified account can be declined too. Because Venmo can change a limit at its discretion, a bill with a due date is safer with a backup, such as a bank transfer or another app.

Limits are separate from fees. Venmo fees covers what sending from a credit card and instant transfers cost. Cash App measures its unverified limit over a rolling 30 days rather than a week, and Cash App vs Venmo has the figures side by side.

What should you do next?

Add up what you plan to send in the next 7 days before a large payment, and verify ahead of a due date instead of on it, since verification needs an SSN or ITIN and the identity check can take a few minutes. For a group bill with many small payments, Venmo Groups shows how a group works out the fewest payments.

Frequently asked questions

Can I verify my Venmo account without a Social Security number?

Venmo says an SSN or ITIN is required, and without one you cannot complete identity verification. You can still use Venmo unverified: pay with a bank account, credit card or debit card, receive payments and transfer them to a bank account.

How much can I add to my Venmo balance?

Some Venmo users can add money to their account, and Venmo says it is not required to make payments. If you see the Add Money option, you may be able to add up to $10,000 per week from a bank or $3,000 per week from a debit card, as of October 2026. Transfers can be declined for reasons other than the limit.

Are business profiles limited in the same way?

Business profiles have their own figures. As of October 2026, an unverified business profile has a $2,499.99 weekly limit, and a verified one can send up to $25,000 per week to Venmo users.

Does EvenOut have a weekly sending limit?

No. EvenOut does not move money, so the limit that matters is the one on whatever you pay with. Settle up records a payment you made another way, and a partial payment is fine: the rest stays owed until you record it.
