ChatGPT family plan: what exists and what it costs in 2027

4 min read By The EvenOut team

Quick answer

No family or household plan is listed on ChatGPT's pricing page. As of October 2026 it lists Free at $0, Go at $8 a month, Plus at $20 a month and Pro from $100 a month, and OpenAI's account policy says an account is for the individual who created it. Splitting the cost means each person buys their own plan.

Key points

  • ChatGPT's pricing page lists Free ($0), Go ($8), Plus ($20) and Pro (from $100) a month. No family or household plan is listed.
  • OpenAI's account sharing policy says other people should sign up for their own account, so shared logins are not the way to split the cost.
  • A household of four on Plus pays $80 a month, which is $960 a year. Four on Go pay $32 a month.
  • Claude and Perplexity list no family plan either. Their personal plans are described as for individuals.

What does ChatGPT’s pricing page list?

It lists four personal plans and no family or household plan. As of October 2026 the Individual tab shows these US prices:

Plan Price A year, paid monthly
Free $0 $0
Go $8 a month $96
Plus $20 a month $240
Pro From $100 a month From $1,200

The last column is the monthly price times 12. It is arithmetic, not a price on the page.

Can two people share one ChatGPT account?

OpenAI’s account sharing policy says an account is meant for one person, “the individual who created it”, and that other people “should sign up for their own account.” So the usual answer to “split ChatGPT Plus” is that each person buys a plan, and any splitting happens between people, not inside one login.

What do other AI plans list?

Claude and Perplexity follow the same pattern, also as of October 2026.

  • Claude. Pro is $17 a month with an annual subscription ($200 billed up front) or $20 monthly. Max is from $100 a month, and Team is listed as “For teams of 2 to 150.” Pro is described as “for individual consumers.” No family plan is listed.
  • Perplexity. Pro is $17 a month and Max is $167 a month, both billed annually, and the page says “For personal use only.” No family plan is listed.

What does it cost a household?

Say four people in one home each want the same plan. With no family price to divide, the cost is the plan price times the number of people. That is the opposite of a family plan, where each person added lowers everyone’s share: Spotify Family at $21.99 a month falls to $3.67 each at six people, while a sixth ChatGPT Plus user adds another $20.

  • Four on Plus: 4 x $20 = $80 a month, or $960 a year.
  • Four on Go: 4 x $8 = $32 a month, or $384 a year.
  • Two on Plus and two on Free: 2 x $20 = $40 a month, or $480 a year.

Cutting that number comes down to who actually needs a paid plan, since the Free plan costs $0.

When does splitting a ChatGPT bill make sense?

When one person pays for another person’s plan, or a few people chip in for someone else’s. Say three siblings buy Plus for a parent. The plan is $20 a month, and the parent has their own account, so the siblings split the $20: $6.67, $6.67 and $6.66.

In EvenOut, add the $20 as an expense in a group of the three siblings and set “Paid by” to whoever is billed. Leave the split on “Split equally” among the three, with the Subscriptions category, and the cents are shared out so the total stays $20.00. The parent does not need to be in EvenOut. Open “Photo, repeat, pending or note” and set Repeat to Monthly so each later charge is added for you (this needs a connection), then record each sibling’s repayment with “Settle up”. EvenOut records who paid and who owes. It does not move money, and it does not share a login.

What if everyone has a different plan?

Use exact amounts, not an equal split. Say Maya is on Plus ($20), Ben is on Go ($8) and Chloe uses Free, and Maya pays the bill for both paid plans, $28 in total. Split equally among the three, that comes to $9.33 each, which would charge Chloe for a paid plan she does not have. Set the split to “Exact amounts” instead: Ben owes Maya $8, Chloe owes $0, and Maya covers her own $20. The status pill reads “All assigned” when the amounts add up to $28.

Next step

Check the plan page on the day you buy, because every price here is as of October 2026 and companies change them. To see which subscriptions do have family seats, read shared subscription plans, prices and rules. To try your own numbers, the shared plan cost per person calculator divides any price by any number of people. Once you split a plan, tracking shared subscriptions and renewals keeps each renewal in one place.

Frequently asked questions

How much more does each step up in ChatGPT cost?

Plus is $12 a month more than Go, which is $144 a year. Pro starts at $100 a month, so it is at least $80 a month ($960 a year) more than Plus. All prices are US dollars from the pricing page as of October 2026.

Is Claude Pro cheaper billed annually?

Yes. The annual plan is $200 billed up front, which is $16.67 a month, against $20 a month billed monthly. That is a saving of $40 over a year.

What do I do when the price of a plan I split changes?

Open Repeating expenses in EvenOut and choose Stop repeating. Expenses already added stay. Then add the next bill at the new price with Repeat set again, so every later charge matches what you are billed.
