Shared subscription plans in 2027: price, seats and rules

7 min read By The EvenOut team

Quick answer

As of October 2026, family and shared plans bill one price for 2 to 8 people. Some tie sharing to one household or address, some to a family group you manage, and a few state no household rule. Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max each offer an Extra Member slot for people outside the household. ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity list no family plan.

Key points

  • Most shared plans sell one price for 2 to 8 people. Per-person cost is plain division and only holds when every seat is used.
  • Rules differ: same address (Spotify, Amazon), same household (YouTube, Netflix, HBO Max), a family group (Apple, Microsoft, Nintendo) or no household rule stated (Duolingo, NYT).
  • Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max each offer an Extra Member slot for someone outside the household.
  • For every plan below that lists both a solo and a family price, two people already pay less on the family plan.

What do shared plans cost per person?

The plans below charge one account one price, and the people who share it split that price. As of October 2026 the lowest per-person figures are for the small storage tiers, and video and music plans land between about $3 and $16. Every price is US dollars before tax. The last column is the price divided by the seats and assumes every seat is used, so it is a split, not a price the company charges members.

Video, music and shopping plans

Most of these tie sharing to one household or address.

Plan and price Seats Sharing rule Per person
Spotify Family, $21.99 a month Up to 6 Family members at the same address $3.67 a month
Spotify Duo, $18.99 a month 2 Couples at the same address $9.50 a month
YouTube Premium Family, $26.99 a month Manager plus 5 Same household as the manager $4.50 a month
Apple Music Family, $19.99 a month Up to 6 Family Sharing $3.33 a month
Amazon Prime, $14.99 a month or $139 a year 2 adults, plus child profiles Same primary residential address $7.50 a month or $69.50 a year
Netflix Standard, $19.99 a month Household, plus 1 Extra Member Extra Member $9.99 without ads, outside the household $14.99 with one Extra Member
Netflix Premium, $26.99 a month Household, plus 2 Extra Members Extra Members $9.99 each without ads $15.66 with two Extra Members
HBO Max Premium, $22.99 a month Household, plus 1 Extra Member Extra Member $7.99 $15.49 with one Extra Member

For Netflix and HBO Max the per-person figure counts the household as one person and each Extra Member as one more.

Storage, software, games and news plans

The small storage tiers cost the least per person, and a few plans state no household rule.

iCloud+ 200 GB, $2.99 a month Organizer plus 5 Family Sharing $0.50 a month
iCloud+ 2 TB, $9.99 a month Organizer plus 5 Family Sharing $1.67 a month

Apple One Premier, $39.95 a month Up to 6 “Share with up to five people” $6.66 a month
Microsoft 365 Family, $12.99 a month or $129.99 a year 1 to 6 Invitees stay in the owner’s family group $2.17 a month, or $21.67 a year

NYT All Access Family, $34 every 4 weeks (after the first 6 months) 4 logins Anyone, “no matter who they are” $8.50 every 4 weeks

Per-person figures divide one price by every seat. They are not prices the company charges, and they only hold when every seat is used.

Which plans limit streams, or list no family option?

These plans have no seat count or no family price to divide.

  • Disney+, Hulu and Peacock. They limit simultaneous streams, not people. Disney+ lets the household stream on up to four devices at once (Premium is $21.49), ad-supported Hulu ($12.49) allows two screens, and Peacock Premium ($12.99) allows three streams. Disney+ also offers one Extra Member for someone outside the household.
  • Duolingo Super Family and Dropbox Family. Duolingo covers up to 6 Super accounts, in any location. Dropbox Family covers up to 6 members sharing 2 TB, for personal use. Check each company’s current Family price before you divide it.
  • Game Pass. The US plan page lists no family tier. Its “home Xbox” feature lets anyone who signs in on your home console use the games from your subscription, and you can switch your home Xbox up to five times a year.
  • WSJ. The subscribe page lists no family or sharing plan.
  • ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity. None lists a family plan. The paid personal plans are ChatGPT Plus at $20 a month, Claude Pro at $17 a month billed annually and Perplexity Pro at $17 a month billed annually. What ChatGPT’s pricing page lists has the details.

When does a family plan beat two solo plans?

A family plan beats two solo plans from the second person, on every plan in this table. These are the plans that list both a solo and a family price. Apple One’s solo price is for Individual, which is not listed as shareable.

Plan Two solo plans One family plan Saving
Spotify, monthly $25.98 $21.99 $3.99
YouTube Premium, monthly $31.98 $26.99 $4.99
Apple Music, monthly $23.98 $19.99 $3.99
Microsoft 365, monthly $19.98 $12.99 $6.99
Nintendo Switch Online, yearly $39.98 $34.99 $4.99
Apple One, monthly $43.90 $27.95 $15.95
1Password, per month billed yearly (first-year offer) $5.98 $4.49 $1.49
NYT All Access, every 4 weeks (after intro) $60.00 $34.00 $26.00

Whose rule applies to your group?

Match your situation to the rule before you invite anyone, because four kinds of rule appear.

  • Same address or household. Spotify, YouTube, Amazon, Disney+, Hulu, Peacock, HBO Max and Netflix all name an address or household. Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max offer an Extra Member slot for people outside it.
  • A family group you manage. Apple (iCloud+, Apple Music, Apple One) uses Family Sharing, and Microsoft 365 keeps invitees in the owner’s family group. Nintendo Switch Online Family also uses a family group, and if the buyer leaves it, the other members lose service until they become members again. Google’s plan pages say each plan can be shared with up to five others.
  • No household rule stated. Duolingo says Super can be shared in any location, and the NYT says “no matter who they are”. Nintendo states no household rule either.
  • One person only. Spotify Individual covers 1 account, Microsoft 365 Personal is for 1 person, and Apple One Individual is not listed as shareable.

How do you split the bill once you pick a plan?

One person is billed, and EvenOut records the rest. Add the bill as an expense paid by that person, choose “Split equally” or a split by “Shares” if the use is uneven, and set Repeat to Monthly or Yearly. “Settle up” records each repayment. Anyone who is not on EvenOut yet can be added as a guest. Tracking shared subscriptions and renewals shows the full setup. The Spotify Family split and Netflix Extra Member rules go into two of these plans in detail.

Frequently asked questions

Which shared plan is cheapest per person?

Among plans billed monthly, the small storage tiers: Google One Basic is about $0.33 a month per person and iCloud+ 200 GB about $0.50 with six people. Nintendo Switch Online Family is billed yearly and comes to about $4.37 a year each at eight. Among music and video plans, Apple Music Family is about $3.33 each at six and Spotify Family about $3.67.

How often can you switch plans or family groups?

It depends on the company. Spotify's terms let members of a household plan leave and join another household plan once in every twelve months at most. Amazon says a member who leaves an Amazon Family must wait 12 months before joining a different one. Apple says you can be in only one Family Sharing group at a time and can switch to a different group once per year.

What if a plan is not on this list?

Divide its price by the people who will use it, then check its own rule before you invite anyone. A plan page that states a household, address or family group rule applies to everyone on it.

How do I keep track of which plan each person owes?

Put each sharing circle in one EvenOut group, add each plan as an expense that repeats, and let the balances show who owes whom. The tracker guide walks through it step by step.
