Who can share YouTube Premium Family?

People who live in the same household as the family manager. As of October 2026, YouTube describes Family as “Add up to 5 family members (ages 13+) in your household.” The paid service terms say multi-person plans are “for family group members residing in the same household as the family manager.”

That makes the manager one seat and the members up to 5 more, so 6 people at most. A family member must be 13 or older. Someone who does not live in the household is outside the plan as YouTube words it.

Student plans are separate plans. They need verification, are valid for up to 4 years, and Student is $8.99 a month.

How much does each person pay?

As of October 2026, Family costs $26.99 a month in the US, and the price is the same however many seats are in use. The table shows each person’s share for four example households, rounded to the cent.

Who is on the plan People Each pays a month
Manager and a spouse 2 $13.50
Manager, spouse and a teen aged 13 or older 3 $9.00
Manager, spouse and two teens 4 $6.75
Manager and five members 6 $4.50

These are the plan price divided by the number of people, not prices YouTube charges anyone. Cents need sharing out, since $26.99 split four ways is $6.7475. In EvenOut three people pay $6.75 and one pays $6.74, which adds up to $26.99. Six people split it as five payments of $4.50 and one of $4.49.

How do you split it in EvenOut?

The manager is the one who pays YouTube, so the manager enters the bill. Say you are the manager and three other people in your home are on the plan.

  1. Make a group. Create one with the type “Household” (“Rent and bills”) and add the people on the plan. A family member who is not on EvenOut yet can be added with “Add a guest” and invited later.
  2. Add the bill. Tap “Add expense”, type 26.99, and write YouTube Premium under “What was this for?”. Choose the Subscriptions category.
  3. Check the payer and the split. “Paid by you” and “Split equally” are the defaults. Tap anyone not on the plan to leave them out (“Tap someone to leave them out”).
  4. Repeat it monthly. Open “Photo, repeat, pending or note”, tap “Repeat” and choose “Monthly”. The expense you save is the first one, and EvenOut adds each later one for you with the same payer and split. Setting up a repeat needs a connection.
  5. Record each payback. When someone pays you, they tap “Settle up” and then “Record payment”.

EvenOut records who owes what and moves no money, so everyone pays you by their usual method. If someone is late, “Remind” shares a message or sends an email with the amount and a settle-up link, and it allows one nudge per person per group per day.

What changes when someone joins or leaves?

The split depends on who is on the plan, so it changes when people do. When a new member joins, the price per person drops. Four people pay $6.75, and five pay about $5.40 each, because $26.99 divided by five is $5.398. When one person leaves, the others pay more, and going from four to three people raises each share from $6.75 to $9.00.

Each repeat keeps the payer and split it was saved with. To change who is in the split, open “Repeating expenses” from the group menu, tap the repeat and choose “Stop repeating”. Expenses already added stay. Then add a new monthly expense with the new group of people.

What should you do next?

Confirm everyone qualifies, then set the monthly repeat so the expense appears without you remembering it. To try other prices and head counts, use the shared plan cost per person calculator. Seeing YouTube next to other family plans helps too, and shared subscription plans compared does that. Keep every subscription in one list with how to track shared subscriptions, so a renewal or a price change does not catch the group out.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add my spouse or partner to the plan?

Yes, if they live in your household and are 13 or older. The manager adds family members, up to 5, and a spouse is one of those seats. That makes the plan 2 people at $13.50 each when it is only the two of you.

What if my group is bigger than the plan?

The plan holds the manager plus 5 members, so 6 people at most. In EvenOut, tap the names of anyone who is not on the plan to leave them out of the split, so they are not charged a share of $26.99.

Can one person pay less than the others?

Yes. Choose Exact amounts for that expense instead of Split equally. In a group of four, if a teen pays $5.00, the other three share the remaining $21.99, which is $7.33 each. EvenOut shows how much is left to assign until the amounts add up to $26.99.

What does Family cost over a year?

$323.88 for 12 months of $26.99. Six people pay $53.98 each, four pay $80.97, three pay $107.96 and two pay $161.94.
