Tricount without an account: what works and what needs sign-up
Quick answer
EvenOut asks you to sign in with Google or email, and a friend who will not sign up can be a guest in a group, added by name. Tricount's home page says "Try tricount without signing up". Its help center says new sign-ups get a bunq account automatically, and the Free Credit Card sign-up asks for a phone code, a Tax Identification Number and an ID check.

Can you use Tricount without an account?
Tricount’s home page says “Try tricount without signing up.” The sign-up itself is described in its help center, and the word “account” covers several separate things there, so this page takes them one at a time. All facts are as of October 2026.
What does a Tricount account involve?
Four separate things can sit behind the word.
- A profile. You can delete it in the app or by email.
- A bunq account. The help center says “Newly registered tricount users will also get a bunq account automatically upon signup”. Tricount’s terms say the app is owned and operated by bunq B.V.
- The Free Credit Card. Signing up for it asks for personal details, a phone confirmation code, a Security Code, a Tax Identification Number and identity verification. The help center lists 21 countries where the card works for residents.
- A bank connection. It is only for request links, and it is a separate step from joining a tricount.
The help center says that if you do not want a Free Credit Card from the Card tab, you enter expenses manually. Before you tell a group it can skip the card steps, open the app on a new account and look at what the first screens ask for.
How do friends join a tricount?
Friends join by tapping a link, and Tricount says “The app handles the rest”. A tricount holds up to 50 people, including you.
Two dated release notes bear on this. The one from July 2025 says the joining flow now makes it easier to understand when and why a login is needed, so some steps do ask people to log in. The one dated 5 October 2026 says you can “share what friends outside tricount owe you … without needing them to be on the app”. Try it with one friend before a group relies on it.
What if some of your group will not install an app?
In EvenOut, add them as guests: a guest is someone who is not on EvenOut yet, and you track their share by name until they claim it. If nobody should install or sign up for anything, use a tool that works in a browser. Spliit is a web app, and KittySplit works in a browser.
Which apps need no account at all?
Three apps ask for no account from you, and each puts something different in its place. EvenOut and Tricount are in the table for comparison.
| App | Account for you? | Other people | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| EvenOut | Yes: sign in with Google or email | Friends join with an account, or you add them as guests in a group | No daily expense limit, no ads. Adding a guest needs a connection |
| Tricount | Home page: “Try tricount without signing up.” New sign-ups also get a bunq account | Join by link, up to 50 people including you | The Free Credit Card sign-up includes an identity check. Without the card, expenses are entered by hand |
| Spliit | No account | No account either. The link is the key | Anyone with the link can read and change the group |
| KittySplit | No. “Not to create a Kitty, use one, or upgrade it” | Share the Kitty’s link | A free Kitty holds up to 9 people. Super Kitty is €2.99 once per group |
| Splid | No sign-up required | Share a group with an access code | A shared group’s data goes to Splid. Deleting a shared group means emailing Splid |
Spliit. Its privacy policy says anyone with the link can read and change the group, and its author notes that a new device starts empty until you reopen the links. Its author lists no notifications and no “friends” feature as trade-offs.
KittySplit. A free Kitty takes up to 9 people with no cap on expenses. Super Kitty is a one-time €2.99 per group, its pricing page says it is not a subscription, and it takes up to 100 people.
Splid. Its privacy policy says it is designed to be used without signing up with a name or an email address. A group not shared online stays on the device. For a shared group, the data is provided to Splid so others can view and edit it, and deleting the whole group is done by emailing Splid. It is permanent for everyone with access.
How does EvenOut handle a friend who has no account?
In a group, you add that friend as a guest. You sign in to EvenOut with Google or an email address, so the person who sets things up has an account, and for one-on-one splits a friend connects by scanning your code or opening your invite link.
Say six people split an $840 cabin and two of them will not sign up. You add both as guests (“Add a guest”: someone who is not on EvenOut yet, with their name only). The expense splits equally at $140 each, and the guests’ $280 of shares is tracked under their names until they claim their spots. A guest cannot get reminder emails, so you share a message instead, and adding a guest needs a connection.
The free plan has no daily expense limit and no ads, and guests, repeating expenses, charts and search are all free. Pro is $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year and covers receipt scanning and the assistant.
How do you choose?
- Most people will sign in and a few will not. EvenOut: add the rest as guests, on a free plan with no daily expense limit and no ads. Splitwise alternatives when friends won’t sign up compares the no-account options in more detail.
- Nobody should sign up for anything. Spliit, KittySplit or Splid, as listed in the table above.
- You want to look before you commit. Start from the home page’s “Try tricount without signing up” and see what the first screens ask for. Tricount alternatives lists what else is out there if you leave.
- You want to check whether Tricount is free first. Is Tricount free goes through the paid extras, and how to use the Tricount app covers the flow once you are in.
Frequently asked questions
How do I delete my Tricount profile?
In the app, go to Profile, then Delete Profile, or ask by email. Tricount says the profile is deleted within 7 days. Its old CSV and PDF export is gone, and its FAQ says to email support@bunq.com for an export, so ask for your data before you delete.
Does joining a tricount need a bank account?
Joining is tapping a link. Newly registered users also get a bunq account automatically, but a bank connection is a separate step used only for request links. The help center says request links are available only in the Netherlands, Germany, France and Belgium for now. Payments by Bancontact, iDEAL or Sofort are free of charge, and a payer using a credit card triggers a fee of 2.5% deducted from the recipient.
How does a guest in EvenOut become a real account?
The person who created the guest makes an "Invite to claim" link or QR code. It works once, lasts 7 days, and a new link replaces the old one. The guest opens it, taps "Merge into my account", and the shares move to the real account. The merge cannot be undone.
