How many people can a group hold?

EvenOut’s free plan holds up to 200 people in a group. A free Kitty holds up to 9, and Super Kitty raises that to 100 for €2.99 once per group (KittySplit’s pricing page, as of October 2026).

Say you organize five groups in a year: a 14-person reunion, a 12-person hike, a house of 9, a dinner club of 6 and a 22-person wedding weekend. Three of them are over 9, so KittySplit needs three Super Kitties: 3 times €2.99 is €8.97, paid once for each group. The house and the dinner club stay on a free Kitty. In EvenOut all five stay on the free plan, and nothing is paid for any group.

What does each one charge?

EvenOut’s free plan has no daily expense limit and no ads. Charts, a photo on an expense, a Viewer role, repeating expenses, search and the Splitwise import are free. EvenOut Pro covers two other things, receipt scanning and the assistant, at $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year (US, as of August 2026).

KittySplit’s free Kitty has no limit on expenses, comments or categories. Super Kitty is the paid step, and the pricing page says it is not a subscription. As of October 2026 the US purchase list shows Super Kitty Upgrade at $2.99. Super Kitty adds up to 100 people, multiple currencies with conversion, default shares, receipt and photo attachments, per-category insights and a read-only link.

EvenOut’s free plan has a counterpart to four of those: the group size, charts, photos on expenses and a read-only Viewer role.

How do the splits compare?

EvenOut offers Equally, Exact amounts, Percent, Shares and By item. KittySplit lists equal, shares, percentage and fixed splits. By item gives each line of a bill to the people who had it, and tax and tip go in as lines of their own.

Say Dara, Eli and Fay split an $88 dinner. Dara’s salmon is $26, Eli’s pasta is $18, Fay’s salad is $14, a starter for the table is $12, tax is $6 and tip is $12. The starter, tax and tip are shared by all three and come to $30, which is $10 each. Dara’s share is $36, Eli’s is $28 and Fay’s is $24, and those add back to $88.

For settling, EvenOut’s Simplify debts is on by default for a group and cuts the number of payments without changing what anyone owes in total. KittySplit’s settle-up also finds the fewest transfers.

Who should pick which?

Pick EvenOut when a group is bigger than 9, when it keeps going (a household, a club, a yearly trip), or when you want charts, a photo on an expense and five split methods without paying for each group. If the group will not sign in, or you need currency conversion or a spreadsheet export, those are outside what EvenOut does: it needs a Google or email sign-in, has no conversion and has no data export. Splitting expenses in two currencies without converting shows how EvenOut handles more than one currency.

Splitwise alternatives when friends won’t sign up compares more apps that work without an account, and the best group expense tracker apps lines up group sizes and prices side by side.

Frequently asked questions

Can a group of 30 people use EvenOut for free?

Yes. A group holds up to 200 people on the free plan. Friends and guests can be added directly from Members, and anyone else joins through the group's invite link, which works for several people and lasts 30 days. The link stops working when the owner removes someone.

Where are the charts in EvenOut?

Open a group and tap the round Spending charts button, or choose Charts from the group's menu. The By category block is a donut where tapping a slice lists its expenses, and the Over time block shows monthly bars. Chips switch between Everyone, You and each person's share. A friend's page has the same under Charts.

Does Super Kitty renew every year?

No. KittySplit's pricing page says Super Kitty is not a subscription. It is €2.99 once for each group (October 2026), so a second group that outgrows 9 people is a second €2.99. Any participant can upgrade a Kitty at any time. That person pays, and the cost is added to the Kitty as an expense that everyone shares. The US purchase list shows the same upgrade at $2.99.

Does EvenOut convert currencies like Super Kitty does?

No. In EvenOut you tap the currency chip next to the amount to log an expense in any of 154 currencies. The group's Balances list shows a separate line for each currency, and each line is settled in its own currency.
