How to split Amazon Prime with Amazon Family

4 min read By The EvenOut team

Quick answer

Amazon's own way to share Prime is Amazon Family, which shares Prime benefits with one other adult who has the same primary residential address, plus child profiles. As of October 2026, Prime costs $14.99 a month or $139 a year, so two adults pay about $7.50 a month or $69.50 a year each.

Key points

  • Amazon Family shares Prime benefits with one other adult and child profiles. Adults must share the same primary residential address.
  • Prime is $14.99 a month or $139 a year as of October 2026, so two adults pay $7.50 a month or $69.50 a year each.
  • The yearly plan saves $40.88 against 12 monthly payments, which is $20.44 each.
  • Prime Video Ad Free cannot be shared, and a member who leaves waits 12 months before joining a different Amazon Family.

Can you split an Amazon Prime account?

Yes, through Amazon Family, and the split is between two adults. As of October 2026, Prime costs $14.99 a month or $139 a year, with a 30-day trial. Amazon Family shares Prime benefits with one other adult and up to four child profiles. Child profiles add no seat price, so the bill stays at one Prime membership and the people paying are you and one other adult.

What are the Amazon Family rules?

Three rules shape the split.

  • Same address. Adults must share the same primary residential address. Someone whose home is somewhere else does not meet this rule.
  • No Ad Free sharing. Prime Video Ad Free cannot be shared through Amazon Family.
  • A wait after leaving. A member who leaves must wait 12 months before joining a different Amazon Family. Check that the other adult plans to stay before you set the split up.

How much does each person pay?

Two adults pay half each, and the yearly plan costs less than 12 monthly payments.

  • Monthly. $14.99 divided by 2 is $7.495, so one of you pays $7.50 and the other $7.49.
  • Yearly. $139 divided by 2 is $69.50 each.
  • The difference. Twelve monthly payments come to $179.88, so paying yearly saves $40.88 in total, or $20.44 each.

Paying yearly means one person fronts $139 and waits for $69.50 back, so ask for it soon after the charge. These are plain halves of the listed price, not something Amazon charges each member.

If each adult bought their own Prime, the two of them would pay $29.98 a month or $278 a year, so one membership shared through Amazon Family halves the cost.

How do you track the split in EvenOut?

EvenOut records who paid and who owes. It does not move money, so you still repay each other the way you normally do. It splits to the cent, so $14.99 between two comes out as $7.50 and $7.49 with no cent lost.

  1. Connect with the other adult. If they use EvenOut, add them with “Add a friend” on the Friends tab. If they do not, create a group of the type “Household” and add them as a guest, which is someone who is not on EvenOut yet, then invite them later.
  2. Add the bill. Tap “Add expense”, type 14.99 (or 139 for the yearly plan), call it “Amazon Prime” and choose the Subscriptions category. Leave it on “Paid by you” and “Split equally” with the other adult.
  3. Make it repeat. Open “Photo, repeat, pending or note”, choose “Repeat” and pick “Monthly” (or “Yearly”). The expense you save is the first one, and EvenOut adds each later one for you. Setting up a repeat needs a connection.
  4. Settle up. When they pay you back, open “Settle up” and record the payment. A partial payment works too. You do not have to settle every month: three months of the monthly plan is $44.97, so the other adult’s half is about $22.49 if you prefer to settle quarterly.
  5. Update it when the price changes. Open “Repeating expenses” from the group or friend menu and choose “Stop repeating”. Expenses already added stay. Then add the next bill at the new price with Repeat set again.

What if you live with more than one other adult?

Amazon Family holds one other adult, so a third adult cannot join the same Amazon Family. Two of you share one membership at $14.99 a month, and the third needs a Prime membership of their own. The cost of that second membership stays with them. It does not go into your split.

What if one adult leaves partway through a year?

Agree the rule before it happens, because the person who paid for the year carries the unused months. One simple rule is that the person leaving pays for the months they used. A year of Prime is $139, which is about $11.58 a month in total and about $5.79 each. If the other adult leaves after 5 months, their half of those months is $28.96 ($139 divided by 12, times 5, divided by 2), and the person who paid covers the other 7 months.

Amazon Family also lets you share the titles you buy on Audible. What Amazon Family shares on Audible has the details.

Next step

Work out the split with the shared plan cost per person calculator if you want to try other prices. To see how Prime compares with other sharing rules, read shared subscription plans, prices and rules. Once the repeat is running, tracking shared subscriptions and renewals shows how to keep every plan in one group.

Frequently asked questions

How many Prime Video streams can two adults run at once?

Amazon allows three concurrent streams within the same Amazon account, and up to two simultaneous streams of the same content. That means three screens in total, and only two of them on the same title.

What counts as the same address for Amazon Family?

Amazon calls it the primary residential address and defines it as the address you consider home, where you spend most of your time. Both adults need to share that one address.

Does Amazon Family also share Audible?

Through Amazon Family you can share purchased Audible titles with one adult and up to four children. Premium credits and titles from the included catalog cannot be shared.

Is the yearly plan worth it if the other adult might leave?

Counting only what you pay, monthly Prime reaches $134.91 after 9 months and $149.90 after 10. The $139 yearly plan therefore costs less only if you keep Prime for 10 months or more.
