Can you share Audible with family? What Amazon Family shares

4 min read By The EvenOut team

Quick answer

Partly. Through Amazon Family you can share purchased Audible titles with one adult and up to four children. Premium credits and included-catalog titles cannot be shared, so splitting one membership fee gives a second adult no credits. As of October 2026, Audible costs $8.99 a month for Standard and $14.95 a month for Premium, each starting with a 30-day trial.

Key points

  • Purchased Audible titles can be shared through Amazon Family with one adult and up to four children.
  • Premium credits and included-catalog titles cannot be shared, so a second adult gets no monthly credit from your plan.
  • Standard is $8.99 a month and Premium is $14.95 a month, as of October 2026. Two Premium memberships cost $29.90 a month.
  • Splitting one Premium fee is about $7.48 each, but the second adult still has no credits. A second membership of their own costs $179.40 a year.
  • Amazon Family adults must share a primary residential address, so a friend at another address does not qualify.

What can you share on Audible with family?

You can share the audiobooks you have purchased, and not much else. As of October 2026, Audible’s help article says that through Amazon Family you can share purchased titles with one adult and up to four children. It says in the same breath that Audible Premium credits and titles from the included catalog “cannot be shared”.

So sharing a library, a book or a purchased title works inside Amazon Family. Sharing credits does not work at all, whoever the other person is.

Who can join your Amazon Family?

Adults in an Amazon Family must “share the same primary residential address”, which Amazon defines as the address you consider home and where you spend most of your time. Amazon sets these terms, not Audible. A member who leaves must wait 12 months before joining a different Amazon Family.

So a friend at another address does not fit, and nor does a relative who lives somewhere else. Two adults who share an address can pool a purchased library, and children can be added up to the four Audible allows.

Prime uses the same group for a different set of benefits. If you also want to split Prime, how to split Amazon Prime has the seat rules and the per-adult cost.

What does Audible cost, and what does splitting buy?

As of October 2026, Audible lists Standard at $8.99 a month and Premium at $14.95 a month, each starting with a 30-day trial that renews at the monthly price after 30 days. Standard members select 1 audiobook a month. Premium members get 1 credit a month and access to the included catalog.

Splitting a fee halves the price but only shares the purchased library. Compare what two adults pay for each setup:

The setup Monthly cost for two What the second adult gets
One Premium, fee split $14.95 (about $7.48 each) Purchased titles only, with no credits and no included catalog
Two Standard memberships $17.98 ($8.99 each) A monthly pick of their own
Two Premium memberships $29.90 ($14.95 each) Their own credit and the included catalog

The gap between the first and third rows is $14.95 a month, or $179.40 a year. That is what a second adult’s own credit and catalog access cost. Two Premium memberships come to $358.80 a year, against $179.40 for one.

How should two adults decide?

Start with who actually listens. If one person does the listening, one membership is enough. If both of you want a monthly credit or a monthly pick, keep two memberships and use Amazon Family only for the purchased titles Audible allows.

The mistake to avoid is paying half of a Premium fee and expecting half of the credits. Audible’s article puts credits on the list of things that cannot be shared, so the second adult’s half buys access to purchased titles and nothing more. The per-person figures here are plain division, not prices Audible publishes.

How do you split the fee in EvenOut?

If you decide to split one membership anyway, add it to EvenOut once in the “Subscriptions” category with “Paid by” set to the account holder, and set Repeat to Monthly so EvenOut adds each later one for you. “Exact amounts” lets one person pay more than half, and “Settle up” records the payments, since EvenOut tracks who owes whom and does not collect the money.

Frequently asked questions

Can I share Audible credits with a friend?

No. Audible's help article lists Premium credits as something that cannot be shared. Sharing runs through Amazon Family, and Amazon's rule for adults in an Amazon Family is the same primary residential address, so a friend in another household is outside the sharing as well.

How long must I wait to join a different Amazon Family?

Amazon says members who leave an Amazon Family must wait 12 months before joining a different one. That matters if two adults who shared an address stop living together and one of them joins a new family group.

What does a Premium membership include that Standard does not?

Audible's plans page gives Premium members 1 credit a month to buy any title, plus access to the included catalog, which Audible calls the Plus Catalog. Standard members select 1 audiobook a month. Premium credits and included-catalog titles are the two things Audible says cannot be shared.

Do Prime benefits and Audible titles share the same way?

Both go through Amazon Family, but the rules differ. Prime shares its benefits with one other adult and children's profiles, and Prime Video Ad Free cannot be shared that way. Audible shares only purchased titles, with one adult and up to four children.
