Nintendo Switch Online Family: cost per person in 2027
Quick answer
As of October 2026, a Nintendo Switch Online Family membership is $34.99 a year in the US for up to 8 accounts. Split evenly, that is $4.37 each at eight people and $8.75 each at four. Expansion Pack Family is $79.99 a year, or $10.00 each at eight.
Key points
- Family is $34.99 a year for up to 8 accounts, against $19.99 a year for one Individual membership (US list prices, as of October 2026).
- Split eight ways, Family is $4.37 each a year. Expansion Pack Family at $79.99 is $10.00 each.
- Eight separate Individual memberships would cost $159.92, so a full Family group saves $124.93 a year.
- If the buyer leaves the group, the other members lose service until they become members again, so agree who buys before you split.
- In EvenOut, add the yearly cost with the buyer as "Paid by", split it equally and set Repeat to Yearly.

How much does a Nintendo Switch Online Family membership cost?
As of October 2026, a Family membership costs $34.99 a year in the US and covers up to 8 accounts. That is the price for the whole group, not a price per person. The table lists the four yearly plans.
| Plan | Accounts | Price a year |
|---|---|---|
| Individual | 1 | $19.99 |
| Family | up to 8 | $34.99 |
| Expansion Pack individual | 1 | $49.99 |
| Expansion Pack family | up to 8 | $79.99 |
This page covers the money only, so check what each tier includes before you buy. Prices can change, so confirm the figure at checkout before you split it.
What does Family cost per person?
Divide the yearly price by the number of people who share it. At four people Family is $8.75 each a year, and at eight it falls to $4.37. The figures are plain division rounded to the nearest cent, and they assume everyone in the group splits the cost equally.
| People sharing | Family | Expansion Pack family |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | $17.50 | $40.00 |
| 3 | $11.66 | $26.66 |
| 4 | $8.75 | $20.00 |
| 6 | $5.83 | $13.33 |
| 8 | $4.37 | $10.00 |
The price does not always divide to the cent, so one person pays a cent more or less. At three people, two pay $11.66 and one pays $11.67, which adds to $34.99.
When is Family cheaper than separate memberships?
From two people up. Two Individual memberships cost $39.98, which is $4.99 more than one Family membership at $34.99. For a single person the order flips: Family costs $15.00 more than Individual ($34.99 minus $19.99), so it only pays when other people use the other seats.
A full group saves the most. Eight Individual memberships are $19.99 × 8 = $159.92, so Family saves $124.93 a year. The Expansion Pack follows the same pattern: eight individual Expansion Packs are $49.99 × 8 = $399.92, against $79.99 for the family version, a saving of $319.93.
Moving a group from Family to Expansion Pack family adds $45.00 a year in total ($79.99 minus $34.99). That is $11.25 more per person at four people and $5.63 more at eight.
What sharing rules affect who pays?
As of October 2026, three rules shape how you split it.
- The group tops out at 8 accounts. Nintendo’s wording is “team up with seven other people”.
- Anyone aged 18 or older can buy it. The buyer does not have to be the group admin.
- If the buyer leaves the group, the other members lose service until they become members again.
The last rule makes the buyer a single point of failure for everyone’s access. Agree before you buy who the buyer is, and that they stay in the group for the year. The buyer also fronts the whole price. At four people the other three owe $26.25 between them ($8.75 each), and the buyer covers the last $8.74.
How do you split it in EvenOut?
EvenOut tracks who owes the buyer, and the yearly repeat means nobody has to remember to add it.
- Make a group. Under “New group”, choose “Other” (“Anything else”) and name it “Switch Online”. Add people from your friends or with “Invite with a link”. Use “Add a guest” for someone who is not on EvenOut yet, such as a child, and invite them later.
- Add the expense. Tap “Add expense”, type $34.99 and write “Switch Online Family” in “What was this for?”. Choose the buyer under “Paid by” and leave the split on “Split equally”. The step lists each person’s share, and the odd cent is shared out.
- Set it to repeat. Open “Photo, repeat, pending or note”, choose “Repeat” and then “Yearly”. The expense you save counts as the first year, and each later year is added automatically with the same payer and split. If the price changes, tap “Stop repeating” and add a new expense at the new price. A repeat can only be set up with a connection.
- Settle up. Each person pays the buyer outside the app, then records it with “Settle up”.
What should you do next?
Write down who the buyer is, the date the membership is bought and each person’s share before anyone pays. For other plans with the same one-payer shape, sharing Xbox Game Pass with family covers a different rule set, and shared subscription plans compared puts the common ones side by side. The shared plan cost per person calculator runs the division for any price and headcount, and how to track shared subscriptions covers keeping a whole list of them in one place.
Frequently asked questions
What if the checkout total is different from the list price?
Split the amount you were actually charged, with the same equal split. The prices here are the US yearly list prices as of October 2026, and Nintendo says a membership auto-renews at the then-current price, so the figure at renewal can change. Divide the charged total by the number of people and give the odd cent to one person.
How do we split it when two of the eight accounts are children who pay nothing?
Leave them out of the paying split and share the cost among the rest. $34.99 ÷ 6 is $5.83 each, so five people pay $5.83 and one pays $5.84, which adds back to $34.99. In EvenOut, tap the two children in the "Equally" step to leave them out.
What happens to the split if someone leaves partway through the year?
The year is already paid, so keep the shares you agreed for it and use the new headcount when the next year is bought. At three people, $34.99 is $11.66, $11.66 and $11.67. If a replacement joins mid-year, they can take over the leaver's share.
