Streaming services that allow family sharing, and what each one lets you do

5 min read By The EvenOut team

Quick answer

Spotify, YouTube Premium and Apple Music sell family plans that seat up to 6 people. Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max share by household, and they are the only services on this page that also sell an Extra Member slot for one person outside it. Each plan has one payer, so the others repay their share.

Key points

  • As of October 2026, Spotify Family is $21.99, YouTube Premium Family $26.99 and Apple Music Family $19.99 a month, each for up to 6 people.
  • Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max sell an Extra Member slot for someone outside the household. Hulu's terms bar sharing outside it, and Peacock points outsiders to their own account.
  • At 6 seats, Apple Music Family works out to about $3.33 each, Spotify Family $3.67 and YouTube Premium Family $4.50 a month. Empty seats raise those.
  • A family of four sharing Netflix Standard, Disney+ Premium and Spotify Family pays $63.47 a month, which is $15.87 each with one share a cent lower.

What does family sharing mean on a streaming service?

It means one of three things, and the three are not interchangeable. A family plan is a separate, higher-priced tier with a fixed number of seats. A household rule lets the people who live with you use your single account. An Extra Member slot is a paid add-on for one person outside your household. Knowing which of the three a service offers tells you who can be on the bill.

Which services sell a family plan?

Spotify, YouTube Premium and Apple Music do, and Amazon shares Prime with one other adult. All prices are US dollars before tax, as of October 2026.

Service Plan and price Seats Who qualifies
Spotify Family, $21.99 a month Up to 6 accounts Family members at the same address
Spotify Duo, $18.99 a month 2 accounts Couples at the same address
YouTube Premium Family, $26.99 a month The manager plus up to 5 members aged 13 or older People in the manager’s household
Apple Music Family, $19.99 a month You plus up to 5 others through Family Sharing The organizer must be an adult
Amazon Prime $14.99 a month or $139 a year One other adult, up to 4 children and up to 4 teens Adults share the same primary residential address

Which services let someone outside your home join?

Only Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max, of the services on this page, sell an Extra Member slot.

Service Extra Member price How many Conditions
Netflix $7.99 with ads, $9.99 without 1 on Standard, up to 2 on Premium Own account and one profile, one device at a time, same country. Cannot be added to ad-supported plans
Disney+ Depends on your plan 1 per account Age 18 or older, same country, no active Disney+, Hulu or ESPN subscription, one device at a time
HBO Max $7.99 a month 1 per account Age 18 or older, same country, one profile, one device at a time. Not for sign-ups through a connected TV, phone, another provider or a bundle

Hulu’s terms say you may not share your subscription outside your household. Peacock defines a household as the devices at your primary personal residence and tells everyone else to sign up for their own account. Both let the household watch on several screens at once, two for Hulu and three for Peacock.

What does each seat cost per person?

Plain division gives the figure, and it only holds when every seat is used. Treat each as arithmetic, not as a price any company charges. At 6 seats:

  • Apple Music Family: $19.99 divided by 6 is about $3.33.
  • Spotify Family: $21.99 divided by 6 is about $3.67.
  • YouTube Premium Family: $26.99 divided by 6 is about $4.50.

At 2 seats, Spotify Duo is $18.99 divided by 2, which is about $9.50 each. Two adults splitting Amazon Prime at $14.99 a month come to about $7.50 each. An Extra Member slot is priced differently: Netflix Standard at $19.99 plus a $9.99 Extra Member is $29.98, which is $14.99 each for two people.

What does a household’s stack cost?

Say four family members who live together split three services: Netflix Standard at $19.99, Disney+ Premium at $21.49 and Spotify Family at $21.99. That is $63.47 a month. Divided by 4 it is $15.8675, so three people pay $15.87 and one pays $15.86, which makes the total exact. Adding YouTube Premium Family at $26.99 takes the stack to $90.46, which is $22.62 for two people and $22.61 for the other two.

Seats matter more than the headline price. Four separate Spotify Individual plans at $12.99 would be $51.96 a month, against $21.99 for one Spotify Family plan, a difference of $29.97.

How do you split the bill?

One person pays the service, and the others repay them. In EvenOut the person who pays adds the bill to a Household group as “Paid by you” with the category Subscriptions, leaves “Split equally” on and sets “Repeat” to “Monthly”. Anyone who does not use a service can be left out with a tap, and a household member who is not on EvenOut can be added as a guest and invited later. EvenOut records who owes what and does not collect the money.

What should you do next?

List the services your household really uses and count the people on each. Shared subscription plans compared puts prices and seats side by side, and what concurrent streams are explains why the device count matters more than the head count on Disney+, Hulu and Peacock. For the extra slot on each service, see Netflix extra member and household rules, HBO Max extra member and sharing Disney+.

Frequently asked questions

Can a friend who lives elsewhere join a Spotify Family plan?

No. Spotify's terms say every member must be a family member residing at the same address. Spotify asks you to verify your home address when you activate the plan, may ask again, and may suspend access if a member fails eligibility. Members can switch plans at most once every 12 months.

What does a family plan cost if some seats stay empty?

Divide by the people who use it, not by the seats. Spotify Family at $21.99 with 4 of 6 seats used is $5.50 for three people and $5.49 for the fourth. With all 6 seats used it is about $3.67 each. A share that looks cheap on paper only holds when the seats are full.

How does Amazon Family sharing work for Prime Video?

Amazon Family shares Prime benefits with one other adult, up to four children (who get profiles) and up to four teens. The adults must share the same primary residential address. Prime Video Ad Free cannot be shared through Family, and a member who leaves waits 12 months before joining a different Amazon Family.

What does Netflix Premium cost per person with two Extra Members?

Premium is $26.99 a month. Two Extra Members without ads at $9.99 each bring it to $46.97, which is $15.66 for each of three people. With the $7.99 Extra Member price it is $42.97, or $14.32 each. Netflix lets Standard have one Extra Member and Premium up to two.
