Can you share Disney+ with family or friends?

4 min read By The EvenOut team

Quick answer

People in your Disney+ household can stream on up to four devices at the same time. Outside it, an account can have one Extra Member, who must be 18 or older, in the same country and without an active Disney+, Hulu or ESPN subscription, and who streams on one device at a time. Only some plans allow an Extra Member.

Key points

  • Household members stream on up to four devices at once. An Extra Member, 1 per account, streams on one device at a time.
  • An Extra Member must be 18 or older, in the same country and have no active Disney+, Hulu or ESPN subscription.
  • Eligible plans include Disney+ With Ads ($12.49 a month), Premium ($21.49), the Disney+, Hulu Bundle and the ESPN Select bundles.
  • Per stream, Premium is $5.37 a month and With Ads is $3.12. A stream is a device, not a person.

Who can use a Disney+ account?

People in the account holder’s Household can use it. Disney’s wording is: “People in the account holder’s Household can stream Disney+ on up to four devices at the same time.” The limit is devices, so one person on two screens uses two of the four. Disney defines a Household as the devices tied to the account holder’s primary personal residence and used by the people who live there.

For people outside the Household, Disney offers the Extra Member, limited to 1 per account.

Who can be an Extra Member?

An Extra Member must meet three conditions, as of October 2026:

  • They are 18 or older.
  • They live in the same country or region as the account holder, and outside the account holder’s Household.
  • They have no active Disney+, Hulu or ESPN subscription of their own.

They stream on one device at a time. Someone who misses one of these conditions needs a plan of their own. Disney lists these plans as eligible:

  • Disney+ With Ads, $12.49 a month
  • Disney+ Premium, $21.49 a month or $214.99 a year
  • Disney+, Hulu Bundle, $12.99 a month, and its Premium version at $21.99
  • Disney+, Hulu, ESPN Select bundles, $21.99 a month, and the Premium version at $32.99

An account billed through a third party may not be eligible. To see whether your plan offers it, look for “Invite an Extra Member” under Subscriptions and Billing in your account. What an Extra Member costs depends on the plan you are on, and Disney’s help center lists the current prices.

Can a college student be your Extra Member?

A student who is 18 or older, in your country and without a Disney+, Hulu or ESPN subscription meets the three conditions Disney lists. They would also need your plan to be on the eligible list, and the single Extra Member slot to be free.

A student can also take their own plan. The Disney+, Hulu Bundle with ads is $6.49 a month for verified students in the US who are 18 or older, for as long as enrollment stays verified, and then $12.99. Compare that with the Extra Member price for your plan before you choose.

What does sharing cost per stream?

A stream is a device playing at the same moment, not a person, so these figures are per stream and not per person.

Plan Price Price per stream (4 devices)
Disney+ With Ads $12.49 a month $3.12 a month
Disney+ Premium $21.49 a month $5.37 a month
Disney+ Premium, yearly $214.99 a year $53.75 a year

An Extra Member has a one-device limit of their own, and their price is separate from the plan prices above.

Is Premium worth the extra for a shared account?

Premium costs $9.00 a month more than With Ads ($21.49 against $12.49). Across three people at home that is $3.00 each a month, and across four it is $2.25 each. Over 12 months of monthly billing the gap is $108.00. The yearly Premium plan at $214.99 is $65.11 more than twelve months of With Ads at $149.88.

Premium is the plan to pick when the household cares about ad-free viewing. If ads are acceptable, With Ads is $3.12 a month per stream, and the same four devices at once apply.

How do you split the bill with people in your home?

If three people at home split Premium at $21.49, each owes about $7.16. $21.49 does not divide evenly into cents, so two people pay $7.16 and one pays $7.17, which keeps the total exact. EvenOut does the cent handling for you.

The setup is short. Create a group, choose “Household”, add the expense with “Paid by you” and “Split equally”, pick the Subscriptions category and set “Repeat” to “Monthly”. Tap anyone who does not watch to leave them out. People pay you by whatever method you use, then tap “Settle up” and “Record payment”. EvenOut records who owes what and moves no money.

What should you do next?

Count how many devices your household really uses at once, then pick the plan with that many streams. If you are weighing a different service, concurrent streams explained shows why the device count is the number to watch, and shared subscription plans compared lines up the services. Netflix and HBO Max sell Extra Member slots too, with different prices and limits, covered in Netflix extra member rules and HBO Max extra members.

Frequently asked questions

Is the yearly Premium plan cheaper than paying monthly?

Yes. Premium is $21.49 a month, which is $257.88 over 12 months, against $214.99 a year, a saving of $42.89. The yearly price works out to about $17.92 a month.

Does Disney+ Premium remove all ads?

Disney labels Premium as no ads, though select live and linear content still has ads. That matters if you pick Premium mainly to avoid ads for the whole household.

Do the bundle prices change after the first months?

Yes. The Disney+, Hulu Bundle is $11.99 a month for the first 6 months, then $12.99. The Premium version is $19.99 for the first 6 months, then $21.99. Check which price you are on before you divide the bill.

What does each person pay if only two or four people split the plan?

Two people on Premium pay $10.75 and $10.74, because half of $21.49 is $10.745. Four people pay $5.37 each, with one paying $5.38 so the total is exact. On With Ads at $12.49, two people pay $6.25 and $6.24, and four pay $3.12 each with one paying $3.13.
