What is Tricount, and who makes it?
Tricount is a group-expense app. Its terms say the website and the app are “owned and operated by bunq B.V.”, in a version dated 17 December 2024. Who owns Tricount covers the 2022 deal with bunq.
The two app listings name different publishers: one lists the seller as Tricount SA and the other lists the developer as bunq. User counts depend on the source. Tricount’s website says more than 20 million, and a bunq press release in 2025 says nearly 16 million.
What do the ratings show?
The two listings show averages of 4.9 and 4.8, from separate counts. The table is as of 6 October 2026, and the figures move daily.
| Listing | Average | Ratings |
|---|---|---|
| Seller shown as Tricount SA (US) | 4.9 | 7,275 |
| Developer shown as bunq | 4.8 | 195,275 |
The second listing also shows 10M+ downloads and an update on 28 September 2026. The counts come from different listings, so do not add or average them. A rating tells you how many people scored the app and how they scored it. It does not tell you which features your group needs.
What has Tricount released recently?
The release notes show work on moving groups in, linking bunq payments and sharing. Tricount announced the new app as a beta on 14 May 2024, with a Free Credit Card and a simpler interface, and a wider rollout began on 1 July 2024. The versions since:
| Version | Date | What the notes say it added |
|---|---|---|
| 10.12.0 | 3 April 2025 | A new look, with dark as the default |
| 11.0.0 | 16 May 2025 | Moving Splitwise groups into Tricount |
| 12.0.0 | 18 September 2025 | Recent bunq payments added as expenses |
| 14.0.0 | 21 May 2026 | Easier joining by invite link, and clearer exchange rates |
| 14.2.0 | 5 October 2026 | Sharing what friends outside Tricount owe you, without them needing the app |
Premium was discontinued with the new app, and its CSV and PDF export left with it. Can you export a Tricount covers what to do about that, and is Tricount free covers what the app costs.
What does the app list as features?
Tricount’s help center and site list these:
- Groups. Up to 50 people per tricount, including you, who join by tapping a link.
- Transactions. Expense, income and transfer.
- Repayments. The app proposes repayments that aim to limit the number of transactions.
- Offline use. “Add expenses without a signal”, with syncing when you are back online.
- Insights. A category pie chart for each tricount.
- Splitwise import. “Import your Splitwise group” is listed as a feature.
Which features are not on Tricount’s lists?
Four things people often look for are not on Tricount’s feature lists, so confirm any you need in the app before you commit a group.
- Recurring bills. Tricount’s own comparison page says “Add each bill manually”.
- Receipts. Photos attach to expenses. Scanning a receipt into line items is not among the listed features.
- Percentage splits. The pages name equal splits, splits by amount and custom shares. Percentages are not named.
- Statistics and custom split saving. The help center describes both as removed and planned for later.
On ads, Tricount’s website says there are none, and one listing carries a “Contains ads” label. Check the label on the listing you use.
How does EvenOut compare?
EvenOut covers the recurring and receipt cases above, and the bullets below show which part is free and which is Pro.
- Recurring bills. “Repeat” in EvenOut offers weekly, monthly or yearly, and the server adds each later expense for you with the same payer and split.
- Splits. Five methods, chosen per expense: equally, exact amounts, percent, shares or by item.
- Receipts. Pro scans a receipt into items, tax and tip, and splits each item among the people you choose.
- Cost. The only paid features are receipt scanning and the assistant, at $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year in the US. Charts, search and repeating expenses are free.
If you need currency conversion, a bunq card, request links or a file export of your history, those are outside what EvenOut does. EvenOut records payments and does not move money.
What should you do next?
For a trip or a household that wants a free app with no daily expense limit, compare the two on your own group’s needs. EvenOut vs Tricount sets out the features side by side, and Splitwise vs Tricount vs EvenOut puts the free plans next to each other. If you are learning Tricount first, how to use the Tricount app walks through it.
Frequently asked questions

What happened to Tricount's spending insights?
The help center describes a category pie chart for each tricount and says "we're bringing the tricount insights feature back". Its Premium article lists Statistics among the Premium features removed with the new app and planned for later.
How does Tricount handle other currencies?
Each tricount uses one currency. Expenses entered in another currency are converted at the market rate, with a daily rate shown, and the terms add that users may change the rate. Release 14.0.0 (21 May 2026) listed more accurate and easy-to-read exchange rates. In EvenOut each expense keeps its own currency, balances are kept per currency and nothing is converted.
