Splitwise Pro features: what you get and what stays free

6 min read By The EvenOut team

Quick answer

Splitwise Pro removes the free plan's limit of 4 expenses a day and adds receipt scanning, itemization, currency conversion, charts, expense search, default splits, transaction import (US only per the Pro page), an ad-free experience and early access. EvenOut's free plan has no daily expense limit, no ads, and free charts and search.

Key points

  • EvenOut's free plan has no daily expense limit and no ads, where Splitwise's free plan allows up to 4 expenses a day and lists an ad-free experience as Pro.
  • Charts and expense search are free in EvenOut, and Splitwise lists both as Pro. EvenOut's only paid features are receipt scanning and the assistant.
  • Splitwise's Pro page lists ten items, headed by the end of the 4 a day expense limit, and the help center says every plan includes all of them.
  • Recurring expenses, balance reminders and Simplify Debts carry no Pro label on Splitwise, and all three are free in EvenOut.
  • Splitwise's Pro page says "No limits and no ads" and its Terms say Pro "may include... reduced advertisements". EvenOut has no ads on any plan.

What do you get with Splitwise Pro?

As of October 2026, Splitwise Pro lifts the free plan’s cap of 4 expenses a day and adds receipt scanning, itemization, currency conversion, charts, expense search, default splits, transaction import, an ad-free experience and early access to new features. Every plan, annual or monthly, includes all of them.

EvenOut’s free plan has no daily expense limit and no ads, and its charts and expense search are free. Its two paid features are receipt scanning and the assistant.

Which features are Pro, and which are not labelled Pro?

Most of the extras are Pro, but recurring expenses and balance reminders are not labelled Pro. The table gives each item’s tier and the Splitwise page that says so.

Feature Tier Where Splitwise says so
Removal of the 4 a day expense limit Pro Pro help article
Receipt scanning Pro Pro help article
Itemization Pro Pro page, Pro help article
Currency conversion Pro Pro help article
Charts, broken down by category Pro Pro help article
Expense search Pro Pro help article
Default splits Pro Pro help article
Transaction import Pro Pro page says US only, Pro help article says select countries
Ad-free experience Pro Pro page
Early access to new features Pro Pro page
JSON backup of the account Pro Export help article
10GB cloud storage for receipts Pro App descriptions
Recurring expenses Not labelled Pro Recurring help article
Balance reminders (“Remind…”) Not labelled Pro Payment request help article
Simplify Debts, offline mode, cloud sync Core, free Home page

Itemization needs one more line. Splitwise’s split types article lists itemized (items, tax, tip, discounts) as one of the ways to split, and notes that on the mobile app, Pro subscribers can itemize by scanning a receipt.

How does EvenOut’s list compare?

EvenOut’s free plan has no daily expense limit and no ads, and it includes charts and expense search. Receipt scanning is a paid feature in both apps.

Feature EvenOut Splitwise (as of October 2026)
Daily expense limit None on the free plan Free accounts can add up to 4 expenses a day
Ads No ads on any plan An ad-free experience is a Pro item
Charts Free: “By category” and “Over time”, per group or friend Pro, broken down by category
Expense search Free, on the phone and offline Pro
Recurring expenses Free: weekly, monthly or yearly Not labelled Pro
Balance reminders Free, by email or a shared message Not labelled Pro
Receipt scanning Pro Pro
Assistant Pro, proposes and you confirm Not on the Pro list

EvenOut keeps each expense in its own currency, with a separate balance for each currency, and does not convert between currencies.

How does Pro work inside a group?

One subscriber is enough for the group to see the result. Only Pro subscribers can convert currency or scan and itemize receipts, but all group members see the expenses created that way.

The two yearly plans differ in who can use them. Individual covers one person. Duo covers two, with the buyer adding the second person. The monthly plan covers one person.

What does currency conversion do before you press it?

It converts every expense in the group or friendship at once, so check the group before you tap it. The “Convert to [default currency]” button converts all of them at the current rate, settled expenses included, and that can change other people’s balances. The rate is the Open Exchange Rates mid-market rate at the moment you convert.

Expenses you add later need another tap. Changing currency in Splitwise covers the per-expense label and the account default. Splitwise says reversing a conversion by emailing support “isn’t always possible”. By default, balances stay separate by currency, and changing an expense’s currency only changes its label.

Where do Splitwise’s own pages differ?

Two places: how they describe ads, and which extras they list.

  • Ads. The Pro page says “No limits and no ads”. The Terms say Pro “may include… reduced advertisements”. EvenOut has no ads on any plan.
  • Extras. The Pro help article lists the cap, import, search, conversion, scanning, charts and default splits. It does not mention 10GB of cloud storage for receipts or JSON backups. Splitwise’s app descriptions list both, and the export article confirms the JSON backup is for Pro subscribers only.

Splitwise support is at support@splitwise.com and says it aims to reply to most requests within 1 business day.

Which features stay free?

The ones Splitwise lists as core: groups and friends, equal or unequal splits, percentages or shares, total balances, Simplify Debts, recurring expenses, offline mode, cloud sync, spending totals and categories. EvenOut’s free plan has recurring expenses, offline use and Simplify debts as well.

Splitwise recurring expenses repeat weekly, fortnightly, monthly or yearly, with an optional email reminder, and only the web app lists all of them in one place.

What should you do next?

Write down which of the ten Pro page items you would use in a month. If the answer is the expense cap, ads, charts or search, EvenOut’s free plan covers all four, and the 4 a day limit guide lists the ways past the cap on Splitwise. If it is scanning, both apps charge for it, and what Splitwise Pro costs explains the Splitwise plans. If you need currency conversion, that is on the Splitwise Pro list and not in EvenOut.

Frequently asked questions

Can I bring my Splitwise history into EvenOut?

Yes, and it is free. In EvenOut, open Import from Splitwise in the Account tab and choose the CSV you exported from a Splitwise group ("Export as spreadsheet" in the group's settings). EvenOut builds a new group with the expenses, payments, dates, currencies and balances. The original split methods, percentages and notes are not recovered.

What does a Trip Pass add to the yearly plans?

Each yearly plan includes one annual Trip Pass. You apply it to a trip group of your choosing, and it grants Pro features to the group's members for 30 days. The Trip Pass is listed on the two yearly plans.

Is Simplify Debts a Pro feature?

No. Splitwise lists simplify debts among its core free features, and any group member can switch it on or off in group settings. It re-runs whenever an expense or payment is added.

How much does Pro cost?

When you are logged out, Splitwise's Pro and sign-up pages list features and no price, and its Terms say the price varies by date, country, local taxes and promotions. The cost guide explains the plans and where the live price shows up.

Does a Splitwise Pro feature depend on your country?

Transaction import does. It lets you connect a credit or debit card and split recent purchases with a tap. Splitwise's Pro page says it is currently available only in the US, and the Pro help article says select countries only.
